infinity Kappa Perfect with kenwood HU without amp?
Hi, i got a kenwood KDC-MPV619 HU and im trying to purchase a infinity kappa perfect 6.5 front speakers. is this going to sound decent without amp? or is this even possible without an amp? any other components you all would recommend? eventually, i will add an amp and a sub. if I DO need an amp for kappa perfects, what amp? anygood ones you all would recommend and along with good priced sites or links?
in order to install the kappa perfect in my doors, I know i need some modifications, can someone tell me what i exactly need to do and get to do this? using stock speaker wires are no good at all for this? if so, what are good speaker wires you all recommend? site or link would be also appreciated.
this is all for now,
i am a stereo dummie, so bear with me hehe
thanks,
John.

Kappa Perfect 6.1 will sound much better with an amp of about 50 to 100Wrms/ch. Without an external amp, Kappa Perfect will be able to produce up to about 100dB clean sound from your Kenwood's power amp, this may not be enough for highway speed.
To install the Perfect to your doors, you will need to cut the back of the stock speaker baskets, keep the rings to install the Perfect Woofers. You may be able to use the stock speaker wires if you your Kenwood will drive the Perfects.
The speaker wires from amp or from HU to inputs of crossovers, there are 2 pairs of outputs: 1 pairs to tweeters, another pair to woofers.

If you do not intend to add an amp, you are kind of throwing away your money on the Perfects. With just the HU, Infinity Reference series speakers would sound as good (actually better--they're more efficient).
So if you intend to stay with just the HU, buy Reference and save your $$$. If you are going to get an amp eventually, then it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the Perfects.

Now this is interesting...
What kind of dB will the stock system produce? Not that I am thinking of keeping the stock system, I'd just be interested in knowing how much of a gain I might see with a HU install and new components vs. a HU install with my 85wpc amp and new 6.5 compnents.
The stock system is "almost" loud enough for me on the highway. I think a 6db gain would have me in heaven as long as it was clean.
Thanks.

I do not know the efficiency of the stock MY04 speakers, I only know that at the back of MY05 woofer there is a stamp of 20W, I assume that it is the max power it can handled. My guess is that the stock system probably generates somewhere from low to mid 90dB with less than 1% distortion.
I could not hear good, clean music with MY04 stock system at more than 70MPH, at that speed I had to turn up the volume to more than 25, with 40 is max, and it started to distort a lot, up to a point I had to turn the music off while driving on highway with top down.
Jocko2 had very good point, if all you want is Kenwood HU without an amp, then Infinity Reference series will be better fit, mainly because it is more efficient than the Perfect, it will produce louder music with less power. It also costs a lot less than the Perfect series. It all depends on how much you want to spend.
