Install is done and here is the showdown ( pics inside)
I have couple african-american ( see how polite I am) friends here that I hang out with and I think I got some rhyme form them. Look at the theread name, I didint even try
Anyway, for the ones wh ois looking at this theread and didint saw any of my posts here,
I have an Alpine CDA9811, kappa perfect 6.1's, a 12jlw6v2, a jl 300/2 and 500/1. Ofcourse speakers have corssovers , 300/2 powers the speakers and 500/1 powers the sub.
Now story begins with me installing the head unit, willie, dave, phill and marcus trying to figure ut why the hell smoke is coming out of my Hu and stuff. After that was done, I tackled the fornt speaker problem with a set of kappa's, tnx to dave, and installing if those was a breeze (as dave said) too (?!?). After 2 days of installing i decided to put the crossovers in the doors for now and move on. After that there was a wait time, I was waiting on some guy to do the install and then he flaked on me and then some other shop quoted me too much - bla bla bla. Then I finally managed to talk to one of my friedns who hooked me up with this shop name Mr Electronics. They did the install and i am actually pretty happy with it. Couple little things, but nothing cant be overcome by little adjustments. I also padi only $250 for this whole thing. Which was originally an mdf custom box and fittings for the amps, all the installation for the amps, all the cables, installation of the sub and all the running cables around the car labor. So its a pretty goos deal, considering later during the project they realized we will be losing air space by making the whole box by mdf and changed in to fiberglassing the whole trunk and making thebox out of fiberglass, and then flush the sub and the amps with the trunk. Anyway waay too mcuh talk not enough pics. Letme start.
This is my trunk before anything happend to it.
After that, ( I am sorry I was not there while they were fiberglassing) I managed to get this shot before anything was set. This is to show me how they plan it to look like after install.
Then they started drilling and connecting cables. This one is after everything is connected but before the beauty board.
This is the finished produckt. It looks really easy and fast but belive it or not including the fiberglassing job it took a total of 10 hours of work.
This is the fuse box, mounted liek that, I am plaanig to get a board and mount it vetrcically where that fuse stis and put the fuse box and crosovers on that but thats antoher time.
Here is the mighty ( at least to me) JL500/1
This is the JL300/2 as you can see
and ofcourse the 12W6V2 D-4
My impressions? To me it looks really nice, to be honest i did not expect this kind of job for the price I paid. I am very happy with the looks and eventhough its not bling, it looks like bling to 90 percent of the people, especially to peoeple who are not into extreme car audio , who doesnt goes to shows or reads magazines and looks at crazy setups.
Listening?
Oh my god!!!!
That thing is loud. I mean LOUD. Its wayyyyy more power than I need in my car. All the deck corsovers flat and JL and infinity settings are factory default, at about 1/3 power your heart feels like its gonna come out. Low frequencys are massive. Its kinda hard to explain and higher frequencys on the sub , they basically hurt you around 1/2 power. It feels like somebody is hitting you with a baseball bat. So ludness is confirmed for sure, by many people today.
Clearness, its really clear I mean basewise I can actually distinguish many differnet parts on a base track which are on top of each other to create single sound on most stereos. Well on this sub you can actually tell that they there are like 3 tracks or 2 tracks of base. Something I could not achive with any of my Rocford subs. Infintys are really nice too, and after that 300/2 now I really now what dave means when he says INFINITYS HAVE REAL CLEAR HIGHS. So bright that it might shatter your ear drums.
Final note. I am really happy that I went with JL and I am also happy that I found a good sho to install this cheap.
At the end I got hooked up both for the parts ( got dealer cost on electronics) adn installation and both are even better than my expectations.
Finally I am done, I mean not done but at least the sound part is complete for now. Thank you Dave, Phill, Willie, Marcus and othersm even xviper, who shared their knowledge with me thru this process, It was long and painfull, but at the end I look at my trunk , HU, listen to my bright highs on my kappa's, and think you know what andy , it did worth it bro, it did worth it.
Ps: I normal dont refer my self on third person as "bro"
Ps2: Sorry for all the typo's its late and I am not really paying attention.
Next project, drum solo, trrrrrrrrrrrrrra,
Grab your cutters, zip ties, glue guns guys.
Objective rattle prevention- extra bling
Code names are as follows.
Me and Dave we are Team Cobra
Wille and Marcus is Team Eagle
Phill is by himself Team Twins ( heh couldent reisist)
We r going in.

nice Andy... i still think you got the install deal of the century. i am mildly curious as to why they routed the power down the drivers and the RCA's up the passenger... seems like extra work to me.
all in all, we've come a long way from a smoking HU which turned on and off w/ the headlights...
Team Twins...

Andy that is something else. Great looking system, i love the ode to NFR on the angled amp mounts. Looks great, and I'm sure the sound is unreal! I can't wait to get started on mine....
GO Team Eagle!

Looks great, Im happy to hear that you like it.
One thing I dont like however, I dont like the area right around the sub, where the screws are....looks unfinished. Get some sort of nice grill. It will protect the sub (youll be able to actually use the trunk, and looks a lot better.....
You can use my grill if you want some light in there.....
I have the Audiobahn Illuminated grill.
You can use the new soundstream tarantula grills, those are hot.
Audiobahn flame grill
Choices are endless, but get something.
Otherwise, deal of the century, and nice stuff. Good luck!

I have just calculated my total cost on the system.
Alpine 9811
Kappa Perfect 6.1
JL 300/2
JL 500/1
12W6V2
All the cables + installation materials + fiberglass custom box
All the installation + labor
All applicable shipping + taxes.
Total $1760
I think its pretty good for a system like this. Well me installing the HU and speakers, getting almost all the equipment from new york for pretty close to dealer cost and pay no tax on the most expensive items and also getting a pretty good shipping deal ( it was like $60 total for 2 amps, subwoofer and kappa's for about a 4 day delivery to Los Angeles) played a big role on this.
Now I challenge anybody to beat this, see if there is anyone who can beat my shopping style
