Install quote....wow
I've been thinking about upgrading my system for the spring. I bought the car in the winter and now that I've put the top down I really noticed that the systen is not loud enough and unclear when I turn it up. I have an alpine deck 7893 and I wanted to get some speakers and my friend gave me a sony 50X2 amp to use. I found the same speakers on ebay for $150. I'd like to go for the next model up. On ebay they are $250. Here is the break down
PART price Hours
deck- - -
PAC SWI-X 80.00 1
sony amp - 1
MB Quart rce 216 299.99 3
wires, rca, etc 40.00 3
misc. materials 30.00 -
8 hous X $50=400
So the total with all the part and tax comes out to be $877.50
That really came to me as a shock I epected there not to be more then 4 hours of work. I know these guys are the best or some of the best around but does this seem right to you? Please let me know of your opinions and any suggestions you might have.
thanks,

Sputnick, I am in no way flaming you, just giving you good advice, so dont get mad.
The equipment you listed, isnt worth $400. So that install price is rediculous.
YOu dont want the PAC. Its crap. Get the DCI from Lucid.
The MB Quarts are also crap, and can be had for 120 bucks or less all over the net.
Sony amp = fire in s2000....pure crap.
If you need equipment help, let us know.
You arent doing any custom work, that install should take a good shop with 2 people, about 45 minutes. I can install everything you listed in about 1 and half hours by myself, and that includes soldering the DCI. They are obviously a chump shop, because they see someone that doesnt know a lot about stereos, and decide that theyll rip you a new one. Tell them to go f*ck themselves, and install it yourself.
Sh*t, if I talked you through it, step by step, youll still have it done in less than 4 hours.
Oh, and one more thing....they are a crappy shop. Why? A good shop charges over $70 a hour.

Bomberman....although I agree with you on the tuning part and all that...I can physically install the above equipment in under 2 hours without a problem. I have taken my car apart so many times, that I have it memorized by now. But to get it tuned right, will take the same amount of time....not 12 hours....an hour and half is enough for a car with 2 speakers.
As for the install labor rate, sure some good labor can be had for cheap, but I am used to seeing shops screw poeple...so "?usually, you pay cheap, you get cheap"...just a little NYC motto
And again, Il be happy to provide you with my number, and talk you through every single step. I also speak fluent Russian
