Default Installed HU and subs

So here's the situation .. I installed a Pioneer HU and a 10" kicker L5 sub with a 1000w Sony amp. After initial install the system was working 100% completely fine, but now the sub randomly works on/off.

The amp does have power, but it seems the HU is my sending an audio signal to the amp. Now my question is do you guys think the problem is within the HU itself or maybe my RCAs are bad ?

I do know that when I sorta pull or move the RCAs from behind the dash a little bit, sometimes it'll work, but it would still randomly shut off. Any suggestions ?

Thanks guys

there could be many things. for one the 1000w sony amp isn't 1000w its probully 300 IF YOUR LUCKY...
second check your ground.
third check your sub wiring. solobarics are dual voice coil and sony amps cant handle low ohm loads. This can be making the amp go into protection and not send the sound to the sub.

Check:
1. Ground
2. Remote wire connections
3. Heat problems (overheating can cause this)
4. Loose RCA's (Unlikely but possible)

I had a similar issue... what type of power wires are you using (brand, gauge, fuse, etc.)? I was using a crappy wiring kit that I got from walmart... even those the fuse looked good, all I had to do was replace the fuse and its been just fine since. Check all your wiring first, if you still can't figure it out... replace the fuse or get a new fuse alltogether. Your amp might be drawing more power than the fuse can handle.

Check amp power wire for loose connections or bad fuse. I Had a tiny crack in my inline fuse and the amp would power up but would randomly cut out when the load was high. I cured the problem by using circuit breakers instead of fuses. Good luck.

well the wiring came with the car when I bought it, but it seems to be a 4 guage with 50A fuse

when the radio is on, the amp turns on fine and the power led is green(it turns red when in protection mode)

maybe I need an amp of less power ? but it still doesn't explain why when I move/play with the RCAs a little bit, sometimes it'll work ..

bad rcas? or bad amp?

and no. u need a amp with more power that sony amp is barely enough power to run one l5.
l5s ussually require about 400rms and u will be lucky to get that out of the sony amp.

so maybe because the amp is not strong enough for the sub, that could be why it's not running consistently ?

hmm .. well I have another sub at home maybe I'll try switching it up, see if it'll make a difference

yea if you say you can wiggle the RCAs and get it to work then I'd definitely just replace the RCAs... should be good to go after that.
