Default Installing MY04 Horn in a MY01

One of my few pet peeves about the S is the wimpy horn that has been installed on MY02 (maybe MY03 also) and sooner. Apparently, there was an improvement in MY04, so I bought a set of horns from the hardtop guy. I have searched the forums for some guidance on how to install the 04 horn on an 01. There have been some bits and pieces posted, but nothing definitive that I could find. I also have posted in "under the hood" with some luck, although no one seems to have first hand experience. At a friends suggestion, I will try posting in the electronics forum and see if I can get some help. Mind you that the MY02 and sooner have a single horn... MY03+ has two horns... and I believe the MY04 improved the sound of the double horn.

What I have learned thus far is that the MY04 is plug and play on 03+. Some have suggested that there is some wire-ing that nees to be run to do this mod on the 01??? Also, I have read that there may be some fuse issues and there are suggestions on increasing the amperage on the fuse so that the ABS and brake lights don't go out. I don't like the idea of just upping the aperage on the fuse however. Instead perhaps installing a relay on the line?

I have failed to come up with a good step by step on this mod. Mind you, this is not for Hella or Air horns... my query is for AEM parts here changing a 01 to an 04.

Unless I have missed a thread somewhere, perhaps this can be the first definitive one?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Get Griots Italian sounding horns. You won't be dissappointed. Do a search.

My experience is not related to an S2000 but i'm pretty sure the same applies. My 2005 Nissan Xterra came with a wimpy single horn. I bought a pair of horns from wolo-mfg.com and installed them. I did have to take the original wire leads that went to the stock horn and run them in parallel. I went from this:

to this:

I made no other wiring or fuse modifications, and everything works great. Hope this helps.
