Default installing new hu

hi guys,

i just bought the pioneer deh-930 hu from a friend and i am trying to figure out what exactly do i need in order to install this the right way.

I just purchased a 16 pin harness off of ebay. i would appreciate any help and links would be great.

Would I lose my keyless entry capabilities? as far as the dash contorls i know i need that one unit from the fast lab..

This is the first hu i will be hooking up in my life so if anyone knows a step by step page or something please let me know.

thanks

Did you get the connector to go between the HU and the factory harness? Also do you know how to solder? or would you be more comfortable using quick connect crimp-on's?

I recommend you solder the stock adapter harness to the HU's harness. If not just make sure you use a insulated connector. Something like this:

I'll post more info with picutres in a few minutes... I'm having trouble with my account for some reason...

hey dark,

thanks for helping. i'm more comfortable using crimps-on. my main concern is wiring and mounting. i'm not sure if i need some sort of installation kit to make sure everything fits right. i dont know what i have to remove in order to get the stock hu out. do i have to take out the whole dash to make it easier to get to the hu? well i'm looking forward to the pics.

Ok cool. Its pretty straight forward but I'll show you in picture form just to make it easy:

To gain access to the stock HU you need to remove the bezel that's around the HU. To do this open the door, then grab the base of the door by the hinges and pull straight out the bottom will release first but then you can wiggle out the top. Its only held in by 4 clips. If this is the first time its being removed it will be tight and will require a little force. However it will look like this once you get it out:

Once you get that removed you just need to remove the 4 screws that hold the stock HU in place. Just remove them and there you go. Then just unplug the stock HU and do the process in reverse to install the new HU

Remember to use insulated crimp on's and use a proper crimping tool and make sure tere nice and tight (like you can pull them apart), the colors should match up between the new HU harness and the aftermarket harness that will be crimped to it.

The aftermarket vehicle harness should look like this:

So just crimp this harness to the new HU's harness the plug it all together and you should be good. Make sure you ground the HU in a good spot like this:

Then just screw the HU in place and pop the cover back on and you should be good.

I think these photos should be a part of the s2000 specific audio topic in the sticky area. I had to ask in a thread for these too a month ago, and my searches weren't turning anything up.

I can do a 'How-to install a Headunit' thread if you'd like?

That would be sweet. Of course it won't help me now, but I'm sure that it'll help others in the future

You might also want to mention that most aftermarket decks will install in to the stock mounting without a mounting kit, that's something that wasn't obvious to me when I did my install.
