Got this for my Iphone 3gs, sits between steering wheel and shifter. It has not gotten in my way yet.
You want to do the "Two Part Solution" Its expensive, but to me its worth it. The nice part is, you can just pull your device it works more like a dock than a holder.
You would have a plate like this:
Then you attach this to the plate above:
I would snap some pictures of mine, but its at the dealership getting a new top (courtesy of the infamous TSB). If you can wait a few days, I can get you a shot or 2.
I like the idea of a dock so I don't have to play with a cable getting in and out of the car, but I might just stoop down and do something like that since this this isn't my daily.
You could use your existing mount and just the dock portion of the ProClip. I may do that in the future, I am not 100% about the location. I may end up making something like a pillar docking station, as I use my iPhone for GPS & iPod. I don't need to be looking at my console for directions. And I am not going to get a suction cup for the windshield, looks bad, and it's thief bait.
For the S I personally prefer Modifry's bracket (what my ProClip is attached to). It does wobble a bit with heavier devices but a Nano should be just fine there. I'm surprised that ProClip apparently doesn't make a mount for the Nano with a pass-through connection like they do for the larger iPods.
So I found and ordered (I think) the right dock from Proclip courtesy of Brodit that has a passthrough provision for the iPod cable. But, my new 5G nano doesn't work with the existing cable I have for my Pioneer. So, it looks like I have to either A: deal with a bunch of RCA bullshit or B: get a new HU. I'm just going to bite the bullet and go for the option 2.
I know I can search this, but anyone have any ideas of a really good single din that has great iPod functionality but the same (or better) feature set of my old DEH-P880PRS? Perhaps another Pioneer hopefully?

Not sure about the Pioneer you mentioned, but I have a KDC-x993 from Kenwood. I can control the iPhone from the deck or via the Modifry via dash controls. Or I can control the iPhone from itself, and use Pandora or the iPod, or hell I can stream via Safari (Somafm.com). Obviously if I control it via the iPhone itself, I do not control anything other than volume via the HU or dash controls. It also has Bluetooth, but I rarely use it unless someone calls me while I am in the car. It fits fine behind the stereo door. It also sounds great compared to stock. Added some Polk DB6501's and some dynomat. No amp yet as I did not have the cash when I bought the rest. Much better sound than I thought I would get. Maybe a bit too much treble, but I have not had time to tune it too much. With the top down, the extra treble helps me hear the music better.
