Default Which iPod are you using with your IDA-X001?

I thought this was worthy of it's own thread, rather than being buried on page 10 of the general thread for this HU.

I'm trying to get a sense of how much capacity is manageable with this HU in our cars, and whether many/most are taking advantage of the faster transfer and higher SQ via the HU's D/A converters through use of the USB connection.

Cheers,
Phil

I have a 5g 60gb with usb (didn't see it as an option). I also have a full speed cable from a 9856 I had in my last car. Should not not bother using it ? I am a fan of album art....

Sorry, I forgot that the switch from 60 to 80 was made in the generation still compatible with USB... (is it 5G vs 5.5G or something like that?)

The only reason I could see keeping the Full Speed Cable attached if you have a USB capable iPod would be to allow a friend/significant other to hook their iPod to your stereo.

I'm rockin' a 4GB nano. I like the solid-state nature of the device. I could use a little more capacity, but it works well in the car.

I don't have that HU so no comment from me on the connection type.

i have both usb and full speed wire connected....when you really get down to it..the usb is a little better because it has the album art and everything..but when i compared the two wires....it seeme dthe full speed wire flew through tracks a little bit faster...maybe because no album art is being displayed? have you experimented with this philbert?

I don't yet have the Alpine. Like GinoGT, I have a 4G 20GB and am thinking about getting a 5G to match with this HU.

I have been burning all my CDs in Lossless. the 80gb iPod would allow me to have most of my collection on hand, but what I was trying to determine by creating this thread is how useful/convenient having so much music in the car really is, even with the great interface of this Alpine. Would the amount of time it takes to move through that many songs offset the convenience of having them in the first place? Is 30gb more than enough for the car?

As for pricing of the iPod, I was about to purchase a refurbished 80gb from the apple store ($279), but I put it off, and then it disappeared from the website. They still offer a refurbished 30gb for $199, which seems like a good deal.
