Read the rest of his page as their are pictures of the installation showing exactly where the IR is installed.

I've got the IR DCI and can tell you it is easy enough to install the IR LED above the face of the headunit. It does not affect the radio door, and works both open and closed. It is barely noticable on my install - I just taped it to the top of the headunit (on the part you do not see when it is installed) on the same side as the IR eye on the headunit, and it works fine. The cable is rigid enough to keep the IR LED in place.

same here. only on very rare high sunlight straight onto the headunit occassions do i ever notice it glitches... 99.9% of the time, the DCI works w/o flaw.

my IR LED transmitter is not noticable or even visible. it takes a little work, and a black sharpie, but it's do-able.

though, something in the back of my mind is telling me you don't even need the Sharpie anymore. i think Bob converted to a black (vs white) IR LED a while back. mine was one of the first produced DCI units.

You know you can get a DCI for your dash controls that is not an IR. I had one put in my S2K. Just an FYI

To my understandings, the Wire kit (Non-IR) is only used on models of Sony and alpine. I'll be using Kenwood with mine and on their site, only the IR emitter is available. I am a electronic wiz but i would not dare temper with my dear S2K. Not I. This is the first mod i will make and prolly the last for a few months. I simply hate the fact of modifing a car with such prestige and beauty.

P.S. Thank you Modifry for your S2Ki Discount. It wasnt much but free money is always accepted.

you'd be amazed at what you can do without making a single irreversible
change. I've:
- replaced headunit (Nakamichi CD400)
- installed amp (Boston GT-40)
- replaced crappy front speakers (CDT HD-62)
- added rear speakers (Polk DX4)
- installed DCI (Modifry)
all without cutting/drilling holes, clipping wires, or even slitting a gasket.
(rear speakers installed in extra panels by Lucid, bought a used set
of '03 door panels to accomodate tweeters).
you can of course argue whether this was obsessive-compulsive or
that I just like a challenge...
Now for my next challenge - how to Dynamat my doors without getting
rid of the factory moisture barrier?

I don't know if this is good news or not, but I just finished a Wired DCI for Kenwood and they'll be available in about 2 weeks.
