Default Issues

Hi all,

Just installed my Pioneer P690UB head unit, JL 500/1 amp, and Kicker wiring. Having a fiberglass box built for the toolwell for my 10" W7.

Just to make sure everything was good and ready to go I turned on the HU and amp to check the voltage at the speaker output on the amp. NOTHING!! I had the sub turned on to normal on the HU and the volume at 3/4. I checked that everything was hooked up and all was clear.

So I finally decided to check the RCA's. NO voltage at all coming from them. I then took out the HU and checked the actual pre-outs on the HU itself. There is no AC voltage at all coming from them, therefore the amp doesn't even know I am playing music, therefore no speaker output for the sub.

Any ideas?

Make sure you have the outputs turned on in the head unit?

there shouldn't be AC current coming out of the RCA's.. it'll be DC... AC current will come out of the amp thought (that's probably what your reading if your trying to tune the JL amp)

I checked both AC and DC current. I have the sub output turned on to normal (other option being reverse). With the RCA's plugged into the amp I am getting nothing out of the speaker output.

imdarkrider: you helped me pick this set-up while I was in Iraq. Can't wait to hear the sub. Everyone says that the W7 sounds wicked.

Yes and Yes

The green light is lit on the amp. It really confuses me. I have the sub settings turned on. I even double checked with the instructions. If I pull out instructions something is really f***** up.

Only thing I can think of is that I have a dud head unit. Everthing else works fine, just not the sub pre-out.

The guy building the box put two extra layers than normal. I believe it was 8 total.

try hooking the RCA's at the back of the headunit to another pre-out (like rears) and see if it has voltage then.

Well got the sub put in the car today, let me just say that it sounds amazing! That little 10 can pound!

The tech installing it was a little dumbfounded that the rca's didn't show any voltage until we hooked the speaker wires into the amp. Sure enough tho, everything worked fine when we plugged them in. I'll get some pics when I get a chance. Too much to drink last night and I have a huge headache today. Thanks for all the input guys.

One more thing: Sound dampening in the S2000 is a MUST!!! I think the entire ass end of my car is rattling itself apart.
