jl 10w3v3 sub died
So my jl audio 10w3v3 in my stealthbox died and I'm looking to get a replacement. Do you think I should just get the same sub again? or any other suitable replacements out there?
I bought it used locally so I assume that it was abused before I got it. a month after I got it the cone started to crack so I put some stuff called goop on it to prevent further cracking. it was also beginning to smell -a burnt type of smell. another month after that one of the tinsel leads burned off so I soldered it back. then maybe two weeks after that which was yesterday - the other tinsel started to give out. I can tell because I did a battery test and the only way I could get it to respond was by pulling the tinsel lead from the sub creating a little tension. I pulled it and put some goop on it, but I know itll die pretty soon since I don't know how to open the sub up to fix that tinsel lead.
I run the same box / setup and abuse the life out of it daily. So far its holding out.
JL subs can take a fair amount of abuse.
If possible i would be more inclined to replace it with the same model of sub, since this is what the enclosure was built round. I know it really wont make a massive difference changing to a different branded sub, bar maybe outer diameter and mounting holes but i`ve always found JL subs to have a smoothness in their sound that i`ve yet to be able to recreate with another brand of subwoofer.
Nothing worse than changing to a different subwoofer only to find it sounds terrible
