Default JL 500/1 with 2 10in w6

I went to a few different places askin' for quotes on systems. This is what i want to get in my s2k. not sure what kind of face, MB Quartz Tweeters and Mids, JL 500/1 amp, JL 250/1 amp, and 2 JL 10in w6 in a custom box. I'm not exactly an expert in this area, but my friend suggested these to me. The places i went to were quoting like 2,500 which is money that i don't have. i was hoping to spend under 2,000. thus i plan on ordering the amps and subs off of ebay or something, but i wanted to ask the eletrical masters whether this setup is correct or if it won't work or whatnot. Thanks for your time fellow s2k lovers...

btw, what are some good faces out there? i was planning on going to best buys to check some out...i noticed a lot of people have the alpine radios, but i don't really like them...i like designs like the sony explode, but i wish they had an mp3 function...

SUGGESTIONS AND COMMENTS WELCOME...

JL 500/1 and JL 250/1 amps are both mono subwoofer amps. you can't run highs off of them.

not to mention, the 250/1 will in no way produce enough power to adquately drive 2 JL 10W6 subs. and i doubt that even the 500/1 will do a good job on 2 subs. not to mention, that's a whole lot of sub for a small car.

try 1 JL 10W6 on a 500/1. that should still create enough bass to cause minor vision blurring and mild chest pains...

AndyS2 recently put a 500/1 w/ a 12W6 in his car... his thread on it is here:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=194443
and here:
http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=195989

PM him to get an idea on how it sounds... his 12W6 should give you an idea of what a 10W6 will do.

also, i'm an Alpine fan, so i'm possibly not the best person to talk to... but my experiences w/ Sony heads was definitely memorable... and not always in good ways...

12W6 + 500/1 combo is pretty loud. Louder than the car, you or the nuts and bolts can handle. Let me tell you this after I put my system up I realized I could easly go with a 10w6 and have the same amount of base since I dont turn my sub higher than 60 percent. All I get after that is rattle and its not just small things in the trunk that you can get away with dynomatting. Anyway you are choosing otretty quality parts. I would go 10w6 or 12w6 in this car. 2 subs is not gonna help anything and it will drain your precious power.

2500 bucks?!!! I hope you have some kind oh hemerhoid to treat that a$$, because youre getting screwed. Unless the MBQUARTS are Q's (huge waste of money), you should be hovering around 1000 dollars worth of equipment. Also, there are PLENTY of good 4 channel amps you can have that can drive a nice set of components, and a nice sub.

ok. thanx for the input people. so how does this sound? JL 500/1 amp to one 10in/12in JL w6v2 in a custom box in the trunk and 300/2 amp to the MB quartz highs and mids in the front. yes yes?

Why not a four or five channel amp for the whole system like the Memphis Baby Bell?

I've always used four-channel amps to power all my previous systems, and I highly recommend it.

Also, in the S2K, I'd stick with a single 8", 10" or 12" sub or even two 8"s depending on what subs you use.

I'll be doing a single 10" in the near future.

doesn't sound bad at all...

be sure to listen to the MB Quarts first... honestly, i hate the way they sound. but if they work for you... good. just take the time to listen so you won't be surprised.

and a 4 channel amp could be a good option. just be sure to choose an amp that is 2 ohm stable when bridged. honestly - neither of the two amps you chose are bad. i also generally prefer to use a separate sub amp for my systems vs a single amp.

I also vote agains MBQUARTS (unless they are the QSD's, in which case, they are a waste of money for the S2000)
