JL Audio amp calls for 12 AWG - 8 AWG speaker and remote wire????
What in the world? Who uses that thick of a wire for speakers and remote turn-on? What did you use w/ your JL Audio amp?
I already had 16 gauge speaker wire ready to go, then my 300/4 amp came today, I read the manual, and it said, "The 300/4 speaker connectors are designed to accept 12 AWG - 8 AWG wire." It said the same thing for the "remote" turn-on connector. Can I use smaller wire? I must be able to, right?!
thanks,
gil

The remote lead wire does not need to be 12 gauge - typically it's 18 or smaller. My head unit's amp remote turn-on is only rated for .3 amps.
8 gauge wire isn't uncommon for subwoofers. 12 is good to use for component speakers, especially if the wire has to travel much distance.
Your 16 gauge will probably work just fine; don't sweat it.

16 is fine for door speeker stuff as long as you are not running really extreme equipment. I have run 12 gauge and it is well beyond what my Q series stuff even needs.
As for remote any wire will do above 20 gauge.
I ran 4 gauge for power. Then split to 8 for power on amps about your size.
Also 8 gauge wire for any sub other then one encrouching on 1000+ watts is more then enough. I ran 12 gauge dual for my 10w3's in my last car and it never got to the point where running 8 gauge would have helped.
