and no, there is no reason to update. as best i understand, the nomex cone supplier became really flakey w/ delivery times and quantities. so, it appears they are moving on to a inverted aluminum cone that has similar properties (weight, rigidity, etc.).

Called about getting my ten from ED, they are back order as well. Said i could get free shipping though as soon as they come in... haven't ordered yet. Says they are the same subs that they have sold for the last year.

I got two to three weeks. That could mean anything...

Called again to reconfirm, talked to Jeremy, said that the subs are being built and that no 10A subs of the old style were available. Only the new ones with the aluminum cone. Must wait a least 1 month, maybe two.

the 15s are being released first, then the 12s, then the 10s, and then the 8s....

Putting my name on a waiting list. We will see....

Well the inverted metal dome/cone will open up the possibilities for off the shelf protective grills. A number I have tested were fine around the surround, but would make contact with the flat cone near the center.

Still sucks - I liked the CF look of the flat cones

Still waiting on my backordered E8A.44 sub and WLaurent enclosure too. I have been told several times after waiting the prescribed time that it would be in 2 or 3 more weeks. (3 times) So I will just have to believe it when I see it on my doorstep when they do finally come out. I have since installed a "cheap" temporary Logic Soundlab 10" sub in a cube box enclosure that sounds fine for now. And now I am not even sure it will be the same speaker I ordered since I now hear they are changing the make-up of the sub....

 

I spoke with Eric at ED yesterday and discussed the new cone material/design issue. He said all pending orders for the e8a will be filled utilizing their remaining stock of materials (i.e. nomex flat cones) so any of us who are currently waiting will get the sub we ordered. He also repeated the 2-3 week estimate, the same one I heard two weeks ago. Patience is a virtue.
