ok guys so i am sure i am gonna get flamed for this one but i wanted to ask anyway. which is better for an underbody light kit, LED or neons? i wanted to get a blacklight underbody kit, but i have been searching around and it seems as though LED is a better way to go. i belive that they are more durable, which is a plus considering that i do some harsh driving, but at the same time does anyone know which gives off a better amount of light?
which do you guys think is better LED or blacklight neon tubing?
You sooo have to wait for my system to come out Imagine the windscreen, but with patterns, turn signals, etc.
Here's my take on the whole scene. Most (I say most, not all) LED kits, such as the Optx setup by StreetGlow, are not nearly as bright as they could be. The upside to this is the current draw on the kits is quite low, but if your car is running, this is a moot point. Also, the single color kits are quite inexpensive (less than $100), but you pay a bit more for the multi-color kits...the 7-color kits are generally in the $200-$250 range. If you want some real variability in the color (similar to my windscreen, but not as good ), you're looking at around the $400 mark.
Neons have it as far as brightness goes if you get the high-end kits, and pricing isn't too bad...full kits can again be had for less than $100, but a quality bright system will be closer to $150-$200. One downside is limited color capacity, although some kits offer a handful of colors in one box (you pay for those)...so you best be happy with the color you choose. Second, while they're not as fragile as many make them out to be, a poor install or an unlucky rock hit will turn them into nothing but shards of glass, and that can get expensive replacing those. During my sales visit to the floor of Hot Import Nights Miami last year I ran across one group that was shattering a tube on an everage of several a week! Granted, I think that's a bit high, but it goes to show you that they can be bad news.
It all comes down to how you feel the tubes will be treated, what color you want, do you want color combinations, do you want the ability to change color on the fly, how much money you wish to spend, etc......oh, and how much time you'd like to wait for a quality solution to present itself <wink wink> <nudge nudge>
well i was hoping to get the kit for HIN Philly, June 25-26.
i am kinda liking the option of multi colors, the 7 color kits ect. i have been pricing them around $200.00.
well i drive bigbird alot, so i dunno if the neon tubes would be a god idea, i mean i dont go offroading or anything but at the same time i dont want somthing that will be breaking every other week.
and i do want somthing that isnt gonna drawa ton of power, i dont want to kill my battery on my car easily, and somthing that will be pretty bright.
when will you have your system out? i love the windscreen i just need to mount the control box still
to each his own. i personally like the look of it when it is stealth and you cant see bulbs ect. i would not be driving around with it on, only at shows. so again if you arent going to offer any help please refrain from posting in here.
Jen, there is nothing wrong with lighting. It can be rice, but it can also be attractive. It's like anything in life- when something is done right, it's nice. When it's not, it's not.
Now that my sound system is actually nearly some kind of finality, I will be giving Dan some of my $$$. Good luck with your decision.
Jen,
I believe you can tastefully pull off neon. Not many have, however. Mac is up to something, make sure you have a look see before you commit to anything cheesy.
