Default LED License plate bulb mod, pics

so i finally got around to changing my license plate bulb to a (1!) LED. i emphasize 1 because having one bulb causes a problem of too much of a spot light in the center.

well my solution is to add some aluminum tape around the back surfaces to help spread the light, and to block the center part of the stock diffuser, just under the center LED.

and violin!

i think i could get it a bit more even. plus, i have access to some really good light shaping diffusers at work to spread the light out. so i might bother to try that tomorrow and see if its better. but i think its better as it is for sure.

just sharing.

the led bulb looks great, makes me wonder how bad my non-led light looks, never seen my car from the rear yet...

ebay

i bought the "10 led license plate bulb" type. theres 5 led's on each bulb. it was a bit pricer than the other types. but whatever. brightness isnt so much important, spreading the light matters more.

no. use a screwdriver or small pry bar and literally push the bulb housing off (forward).

Meh, one bulb seems too dim for me. I think I'm going to pick up the LED panel for my license plate light.

You can get the panel or wide angle led wedge bulb works fine.
