License Plate bulb

I need to get a replacement for the license plate light bulb. After some searching around, I see people use either the 194 or the 168. Is there a differences?

Yup, those bulbs are usually labeled 168/194.

A 168 is 1.5 times brighter than a 194, but it also has about half the life.
