Default Light Weight Speakers

Anyone know of any better then stock sounding and light weight speakers for the doors? Someone told me they had super magnets or something that allowed them to make lighter speakers.

Don't worry about "lighter speakers," a few ounces to a pound isn't going to make a difference. Subwoofers are a different story.

Directed Audio's Neodymium components. You will be blown away when you pick these things up and feel how light they are. Neodymium magnets are the "super" magnets you are talking about. I was in a car audio store one time and they had a set of these laying out on the counter. The guy working there told me to pick one up. I picked it up in my hand and thought it was a joke. They are unbelievably light. The whole basket is made from composite resin instead of metal. Then he took me in the sound room to listen to them and they have unbelievable sound to match. For $229 with free shipping, you can't beat'm.

That's a good question. The stock speakers are light since they're made of paper cones, but my speakers that I added are 15 lbs. An easy to check relative weight is to add speakers to various web carts and check out the shipping weight.

Otter's suggestion is a very light speaker. Going any lower than that and you'd be splitting hairs.

Oh, definitely stay away from an external amp and subwoofers. My sub amp is 28.5 lbs (I weighed it), my component amp is around 15 lbs, and each of my two subs are 12.5 lbs. I'd need to replace a lot of OE stuff to get back to stock weight...

No offence, and no disrespect to anyone here who posted, but

Lights speakers???!!!

How much preformace do you think you lose with "heavy" speakers.

A human on average holds 5.6 pounds of urine and about 4 pounds of poop at any given time, not to mention 19+ pounds of water, and excess fat. If you really worry about weight for your car that much, take a poop.

Some people take a very ricy approach to vehicle weight loss.

Just get good speakers and dont worry about it.

Dave, I know what you're thinking but it's a good question. The stock speakers are light (read: very cheap) but not all aftermarket components are lightweight. I just posted that my speakers are around 15 lbs. If one can get speakers that sound reasonable and save 10 lbs of weight from my Quarts (that would be a lot of money in carbon fiber, my friend) then more power to them.
