Default Line Converter use w/ Stock HU

Hey guys...

I currently have an Alpine 5 channel amp in my S2000, but would like to take it out and use it in the beater, replacing it with the new Alpine 5 channel V12 amp. However, this only has RCA inputs.

Therefore I figured I should find out what has everyone's experience been with using line convertors with the 2000/2001 headunit? Are you having noise problems?

Thanks!
Keith

Yo I didn't use the converter but instead just ran speaker wire the whole way back to my amp and used the high level inputs. No noise, no problems.

Your amp accepts the high level inputs right?

See this alpine Amp is RCA only...

A good quality line-level adapter works pretty good and will run you around $15-$25. Place the line level adapters as close to the amp as you can - avoid mounting them anywhere under the dash or near the amps power wires.

As you were using the high level inputs on your previous amp, and assume you had no noise on that installation, you should be OK with some external adapters.

yeah it does high level inputs
I didn't want to screw with the converter, but it shouldn't be a problem. I think.

What would be a good quality line converter?

Yeah right now the Alpine amp I have is using high-level inputs and I dont have any noise whatsoever.

The Sony XA75 is a good unit - (not sure where you can find it)?

or

Go to your local Circuit City / Best Buy - they typically have pretty good adapters.

or

Parts Express offers this one for ~$13 - click images

and this one for ~$5 (never used it before)

dont use that junk. due to the success of josh and jenny's install i will never buy an amp without high level inputs again. Josh tell him what kind of amp you got. The thing is truly awesome. No need for a remote wire either because the high level inputs sense the input when you turn the stereo on.

Yeah it does work really nice. I have last years JBL amp that has speaker level inputs and auto turn-on but I got it as a close out on crutchfield - good deal $270 for $70.

However, the MTX amps have the same thing and so do like a bunch others. I think it is the way to go instead of using a converter if you are keeping the stock head unit.

You guys are missing his point - the amp he wants is a higher-end amp (Alpine V12) that does not come with high-level inputs (most higher end amps do not).

I do agree that the high-level adapters are problematic (noise, etc..) - but have used many different types with good success. It is all in the shielding. So perhaps Keith would be better off buying an amp with the speaker level inputs just to simplify things.
