Making the trunk light blink
I was behind a CR-V that had one of those. Interesting and I can see how it would be annoying, but less annoying than some punk with his music so loud that I have to lisen to it in stop and go traffic.
If anyone remembers, these became very popular around 1999-2001. A lot of domestic US cars were equipped with these. They would blink at partial braking, and would only go to a constant burn if you pressed the pedal in further - which nobody did. Everyone pretty much hated them, and I wouldn't doubt if a lot of manufacturers actually put out recalls because it's rare that you'll see one today.
Why be that concerned about someone hitting you? If it happens, their insurance pays for it, and you could just take the check, find used parts, and pocket the rest. I tranny brake excessively hoping that someone WILL hit me so that I can get a check to buy another bumper as mine was damaged in a hit and run.

norcom post up the results if you get one
correct me if im wrong but i remember reading somewhere that over in europe, it's kinda the opposite thing. steady lumination under light braking ans flashing under hard braking.
i belive this has the best of both worlds. normal solid lights in stop and go traffic. no one get annoyed by flickering tail lights. and get your attention, FLASH FLASH BANG BANG LOOKT AT ME IM FLICKERING AND IM STOPPING REAL QUICK SO YOU BETTER DOWN THAT PHONE AND STOP, under paanic situations.
i also saw it on a ferrari 360 in a gumball3000 vid a few years ago.

I have one kit made in Japan never install. I also have a adjustable flasher for the turn signal too. You can speed up or slow down the blink rate. If you interesting PM me. I have to go find it in the garage somewhere.

I'd be surprised that an insurance company would give a discount for that. Seeing as 99% of the time the person who is rear-ended (the rear-endee?) is not found to be at fault anyway.
I have no reason to believe my co-worker lied.
She lives in Cola as well.I would think (especially in SC) insurance companies might see value in a discount based on the probability that the person at fault is uninsured or under-insured.

I ordered one to try it out.

As for the the posts saying it's annoying, it's not like I'm looking at it.
I want other people to notice it. If someone who's tailing me gets annoyed, I really hope this would make them change lanes. Thanks for the help everyone!
Ahh, just said screw it and ordered it on my cc.
If I don't forget I'll post the review of how well it works. After watching the video I figured it's better to have it flash a few short times than always flash. Just long enough to grab someones attention.
