Modifry DCI - Only MUTE button works?
So I searched around and found only one other issue like this that was supposedly resolved by a firmware update? Anyways I've gone through all of the troubleshooting tips and I'm not seeing what my issue can be. I've already emailed Bob but I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problem. I couldn't imagine me botching a plug and play affair....but I want to assume I'm doing something wrong first before I blame anything else. My setup is: Modifry Wired DCI Alpine PnP harness (Modifry) Alpine UTE-73BT HU (other people have the DCI working with this) So I have everything plugged in and I'm quite certain the DIP switches are in the correct orientation, but the only thing that functions is the MUTE button, and that's only with the mute DIP switch #1 enabled. I get an audible beep from my HU when I press Mute, and it even displays "Mute" on the screen and it does actually mute the volume. Aside from that none of the other buttons work. I've tried ungplugging and plugging things back in to ensure the connections were firmly seated. I power-cycled the DCI after making any changes to the DIP switch settings, I've ensured there's no bent pins anywhere not making a good connection. I also disconnected the purple mute wire to the DCI if by chance my mute switch was bad sending a constant mute signal to the DCI; also a no go. I'd imagine my last options are to break out the voltmeter and see if the voltages from the dash control green wire are what the DCI needs to be seeing for inputs, as well as checking the pinouts of the PnP connection to make sure everything is in the right location, and maybe try a new 3.5mm jack. Has anyone else ran into this issue? I feel incredibly stupid as this whole thing was supposed to be by far the simplest radio installation I've ever performed and the fact that it isn't working is really disconcerting lol. I'll tell Bob I'll cover shipping of my entire HU w/ harness and DCI to him to see if he can bench-test it on his end. Hopefully I can get this figured out. Not really in a big hurry because I'm doing quite a bit of maintenance and work to the car right now so it's all apart anyway; just hoping I can get this sorted before the super hot weather breaks. Here's a pic of my current DIP settings (mute & tap/hold enabled, switches 3&4 in the up/on position for Alpine per the manual) https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...3602b4b80.jpeg |
Make sure the DCI is plugged into the correct port on the back of the headunit - I believe the
microphone jack is right next to the DCI jack. Otherwise, in case you haven't seen them already, here are Modifry's advanced troubleshooting instructions. |

Bob got back to me. Next course of action is to check voltage output from my dash controls and see if it’s in-line with proper specs. Will keep this updated |
So there’s voltage at the module. I measure 4.96 volts which puts me within the 10% range of 4.55 volts with no presses per the advanced troubleshoot guide. The one thing I’m not seeing though is any changes in voltage with the dash buttons being pressed. I assumed the worst and thought my switch assembly was no good. So I plugged the stock radio back in and the controls work as they should. At this point I’m thinking the DCI is bad seeing as my controls still work fine with the stock radio. I emailed bob back with the results; we’ll see what he’s gotta say. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...355a1bc36.jpeg |
If your stock headunit works, then it means the car's harness and dash controls are good (as you know).
Check the PnP adapter harness to make sure the green (dash switch) wire is in the same cavity as the car's green/red (in case harness was miswired). Then, with DCI disconnected, use your meter to check ohms between the DCI connector green wire and ground, with one of the dash buttons pressed. If it doesn't drop to the right value, something's wrong with the adapter harness. Alternately, you can check for continuity (~0 ohms) between the green wire connection at the DCI end, and the green wire pin in the 20-pin connector, of the adapter harness itself. |

Apologies for the delay in concluding this. Everything is working as it should, crazy what a runaround this was over the harness being improperly pinned (it happens). Glad it's sorted now and everything is functioning as it should be. Edit: Radio is fine, pic actually snapped right when I was switching modes! It works! https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...90cb75875.jpeg |
