Default Most bang for your buck?

Hey all,

I just got my S '04...and I am truly, madly, hopelessly in love...with eveything..except for the sound system.

Now I am on a budget, so I need to spend wisely and just get bits at a time. But I am looking for some components to build a decent audio system.

Wants/interests:

I am not into bling bling or big sub that nnoys the driver next to me or kills my ear drums.

I like clear sound with the top down.

Sirius not XM...which means I have to rule out HU's from certain manufactureres liek Alpine and Sony.

And Sirius satellite is a MUST; MP3 is a nice option but not a big deal. When I am on the road I prefer satellite music to hear what I don't have.

Music styles: Trip-hop, ambient trance, 80's, alternative, jazz.

So I am looking to do this phases. What will get me the best sound and in what order should I look to have the components installed?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Honda headrest speakers. Its a 04 option, but you might be able to get a cheaper price somewhere else...

I would advise against the crappy headrest honda speakers...they are nothing more than tweeters. They are a waste and look like total crap. Get a clarion/kenwood HU (ebay, etronics,) infinity reference components, alpine type r 10", and a good 4 or 5 channel amp. Thats about 850 bucks and you will no longer be disappointed. The main thing is, you think 850 is a lot of money....well, its not chump change, but if you do something, do it right. Putting in 400 bucks of equipment will result is sound thats just barely ok. Its kinda like spending 100 bucks on a radar that doesnt work, instead of a Valentine 1 for 400. Sure you save 300 bucks, on the flipside, you wasted 100 for a paperweight that doesnt work. Get my drift. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Pretty much what he said
Pay now pay later either way you have to pay, so you might as well spend the 'little' extra now

Thanks for the recommendation and it all sounds good. Is there a way I can split up the process? So I can buy and install one portion now and then the rest later?

Get the headunit and door speakers first then move on from there. Youo can get an amp later down the road. Just make sure you have a great set of speakers that will handle the power once you amp them up.

The best and cheapest bang for the buck absolute is Lucid's rear speaker mod. For about 150 dollars it will improve your sound the best for the cheapest. Then when you have more money you can get better door speakers/HU/S-pods etc.

You have a great idea there Raj....and with that I retract my pervious statement and insert the following:

Get a new headunit and get rear speakers instead of front speakers

Sounds great!

Now I know this is subjective..but are there in recommendations for what mid-priced rear speakers to go with AND for a Sirius compatible HU?

Also, what about the Qube or Lucids dash control...any thoughts on what is better/easier to install? I would have to have an installer guy do it, since I know crap about such things.

Thanks again.
