I have looked far and wide for an answer to this question since I bought my first DVD burner 2 years ago. Are there any Head Units out there that will play mp3's of a DVD +/- R?

That is... A DVD with mp3 files burned to it with or without sub-folders....

 

A DVD player that can play mp3s can. I think the alpine DVD player does. It is however, 900 bucks, in addition to a headunit. Not worth it.

 

I've been on a trail to find exactly the same thing as you are but so far I found one home DVD deck and a portable DVD player that can play MP3-DVD. I am still looking for a HU that can do that. I figured these units possiblly can do that but so far no one can confirm this to my inquiry. (If anyone has one of these units and is willing, I will send you a DVD with MP3 to try. Please let me know.)

I checked the online manuals for these and every one of them specifically says that they don't handle DVD-ROM disks.

I found Blaupunkt DVD-ME3 unit the other day at a store and it handled the MP3 DVD-ROM but it was just a add-on DVD unit and I didn't want to put another deck in the car.

I really think someone makes a DVD player (without screen) in which they forgot to disable this feature. If they can read DVD and CD and can play MP3 off of CD-ROM, I just don't see anything extra they have to do to read the DVD-ROM file system and play the MP3 files in it.

I tried 100's of DVD players for home at the store and found this $50 Philips deck DVD727 accidentally played both DVD-R and DVD+R disks with MP3. Again, the manual lists DVD-ROM as the one it cannot play! So, I think there is hope and there got to be a HU, if not now then some day soon, that will play the MP3 DVD's. Please let us know if you find one first. I am getting really tired to carry these all these MP3 CD's.
