Default Mtx Sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently I upgraded my stock speakers with Infinity 605cs components. 270 watts. I also added a MTX thunder 4000 amp. Now I did not add a huge amp but that is not what I was going for. I just wanted good sound.

I was very disappointed with the sound. I thought I was going to have to change the head unit or add a sub. The other day I was in an audio shop and ran into a guy that had almost the same setup but with a different amp. He loved the sounds of his.

I started looking into it. Decided to give it a shot. Replaced the MTX amp with a Xtant A2002. Almost the exact same power as the MTX.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cannot even explain the difference. The system rocks!!!!! I was probably using a quarter of the speakers. I am sooooo happy with the system now.

Just thought I would share my story and maybe help someone else upgrade cheap but nice.

Are you sure you had everything set up right on the MTX amps? I for one have been an installer in the past in a store that stocked the MTX and Xtant and loved and bought the MTX equipment

Hey,
Thanks for the reply. Yes I did have everything setup right. I do think there may have been something wrong with the amp though. There is just too much difference in the Xtant and it does not have much more power. I think I am going to send the MTX back and have them check it out.

I have to agree with ccarnel...MTX makes some good equipment, you may have had a bad one.

If I keep the oem head unit in my2002 and get the Infinity 605cs with the xtant a2002 amp will it be an easy connect to my hu? Do I need to wait to get a connector or harness or can it be easily hooked up? I have Kenwood rear 3-ways. I assume the rears could be driven by the hu, and just the door speakers by the xtant? Thanks.

And where is a good place to put the xtant a2002? I need the entire bottom section of the trunk for my flight bag and the whole length of the trunk for my golf clubs.

Hey,
You have 2 options when hooking the Xtant up to the HU. The Xtant has high level inputs so you could do it that way but I would not. You can get a high level to RCA converter almost anywhere(circuit city, best buy). It will allow you to change the rear speaker wires to RCA and connect directly to the Xtant. That is the way I have mine hooked up.

My Xtant is just in the trunk now. I do not know where I am going to mount it yet. I have the same needs as you do for that.

If I find a good place I will let you know.

You will love the Infinity speakers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about where you live but the Circuit City has them on display here so I could listen to them before I bought them. WOW!!!!!!

Thanks. I have 3 way Kenwoods from Lucid in the rear and they are only 2-35 watt speakers, so I was planning on leaving them just on the stock hu as fill and them maybe a 2 channel xtant or alpine amp under a seat to run the door components. I think this would work ok and I could just fade the rears to where they sound best. Whatcha think?

Hey,
If you can get the Xtant or alpine under the seat and still have the seat move you are better than me. I had to put it in the trunk but it is still worth every bit of it!!!!

I recently bought an MTX Thunder 6xxx amp for my Tundra, and am amazed at what a great job it does. It powers a JL Stealthbox and 2 pairs of Polk component speakers LOUD, clean, and w/ bass you can feel. Pegs the bang for the buck meter.

MTX seems to be one of the more responsilble mobile audio vendors w/ respect to their gross under-rating of their amps' performance specs. I may replace my PPI w/ the same amp if I install a JL Stealthbox in my S2000.
