UPDATE: I have done some research and have come to the decision that I am going to purchase a new HU with USB compatibility, that way I wont be limited by my MP3 player choice, and can finally say goodbye to CD's. I will be ordering a small USB flash drive and store my media on there. If they offered a HU or a digital media reciever with a large capacity internal hard drive, or SD slot capacity that fit in the S2000 for between 100-250$ I would be sold. Let me know if there is.

My primary concern is retaining factory controls, probably through a modifry wired DCI. I will be relying heavily on playlists to randomly cycle through my large file choice, so I will not need a fancy well lit display to scan the tracks. In fact I cannot stand driving with the radio door open. I want the USB connector to be in the back of the HU if possible. Again I dont want the trouble of having to leave the door open, i will run a USB cable out the back, and leave the small pen drive in the passanger side cargo pocket.

HU choices: NOT SURE... price range is between 100-300$ Again simplicity is the key. A customizable EQ is preferred. This looks promising:

Looking into sony, eclipse, and pioneer. Suggestions welcome.

The component set is almost certainly going to be the Polk Audio MMC6500 set. they are reasonably priced and with an adaquite amp should preform quite nicely. This set seems to be the mos plug in play system with little to no modification. Let me know if you think otherwise.

AMP... this is where my audiophile ignorance reigns supreme. I want something small and compact, delivering decent sound at >200$. I will not be running a sub in the near future so that is not a main concern, but it is a possibility. I will probably run a seperate amp for that if/ when the time comes.

Wiring: I was told that upgrading the wiring to the door speakers was a good idea with the addition of an amp. looking at something from the knukonceptz line up for something. gauge? how many feet?

I have been living with the stock system for almost 3 years now and I think its def time for an upgrade. I would like to spend less than 600$ and will be doing the install myself. Any tips, suggestions are warmly welcomed.

50 views and no replies are preferable to 50 "I dunnos," cluttering up your thread right?

I can tell you from my research that 16 ga speaker wire should be fine for those Polks, in terms of total ohms in the run being less than a few percent of speaker impedance. Make sure your connections are lowest-ohm possible. You can find a lot of myth-busting as far as expensive speaker wire (say silver-plated or Monster brand) being unnecessary.

thanks for the info regarding the speaker gauge, I guess a couple solid responses is better than the a lot of crap ones. This is going to be my setup I believe:

Polk MMC6500"

Pioneer DEH-P6000UB

Pioneer GM-5300T

solid choices?

I am looking at that same exact HU. I like it better than the simplistic 2-line display of the lower models. Couple that with the modifry products and I'm a happy camper.

Speakers will come soon after, but not just yet. I'm either looking at seperates in the doors and s-pods or just 2/3-ways in the doors to compliment my existing tweeters in the a-pillars.....

Based on specs that amp is a PERFECT match for the speakers. Both say 125 Watt rms, 250 Watt peak.

is speaker wire and the amp kit that important, that I need to spend extra cash on it?

do I need this for speaker wire? 14 gauge.

or will this be sufficient?

IMO,
16 ga speaker wire is fine, and you'll get a better return on
your money buying better RCAs than better speaker or power
wire. That said, 8 ga power wire is fine for the amp you're
installing, but if you decided to add a sub & amp down the line,
you'd likely need to run totally new power wire, so if you think
there's any chance of it I'd go ahead and run 4 ga right from the
start.

the Knukonceptz amp installation kit comes with:

"One 5 Meter eKo InterKonnect Blue OFC RCA Cable with Built in Turn On lead"

I am hoping this will be sufficient
