The OEM amp is probably 3" x 4" x 1.5". The Blau would be louder, but you might end up blowing the 6" woofer. The OEM, which isn't 75Wrms, already moves the woofer fairly well.

No the OEM setup does not have any gain control. Using the adjustable high-to-low converter gave me that capability.

I did the same thing as STL with few differences. I didn't think of the built-in amp much and threw it away. I used half of my second amp that was driving my rear speakers to drive the sub speaker directly. The Bose amp looked to be driven from a speaker-level output. I turned down the gain on the amp much lower than the first amp for the fronts and so far I haven't blown the sub. My HU has the sub level control so I was very careful at the beginning with the level to the sub.

I first pushed in the spare with the speaker just like STL but heard banging and saw the spare moving around a little. So, I installed the long stem that I got with the sub unit from the seller. I cannot reach the stem to tighten it when the spare is in place, so drilled a hole of 4-5 inches diameter on the plastic panel below the soft top just above the spare. I tightened the sub and the spare from there and I think the hole allows more sub sound to the cabin.

I did not alter the sub housing except the 1 inch cut at the bottom tip so that the unit can sit inside the spare. I will think about the cutting open just above the speaker as STL did.

I paid $35 for the sub in one of the RSX forum. (Man, I got jacked for $10 extra! ) If you are going to try the same, I suggest you specifically ask for the long stem included. It would be useless for them after removing the sub anyway and having it turned out good for me.

I am happy with the sound. It's not a booming and rattling base but just enough to complete my front and rear speakers, with minimum cost and room sacrificed.

Ok, I have a buddy that is going to give me his RSX subwoofer. Now, he said he just removed the sub enclosure and has it sitting in his room. He says he doesn't know where the amp is. From what everyone has said above, it's built into the enclosure, right? If it is, then everything should be there and he doesn't need to look for it. I'm assuming the bose amp is just for the sub and not the rest of the system.

I've read some other posts on here where people say the amp is optional. Maybe that's if you buy it new from acura?

I emailed my buddy about the stem, but he doesn't know where it would be. Can anymone advise?

His response:

"Long Stem....??? hmm... not sure what he is talking about...
I unpluged the Sub and took it out and i also cut the plug witch has 4 wires so you can connect it to anything and still use the plug.... So i can sell the sub and a plug to u... let me know if u want it...

Jason,

The amp is inside the sub housing. It's only for the sub. Once you open the top of the sub housing, you will see it.

The long stem I was talking about is the screw to secure the sub and the spare. We have it in S2K just for the spare but it is short. The one for RSX is a long one to hold the sub and spare.

Ok, he has it.

Now, I did some digging and a lot of people were complaining on the rsx forum about how crappy this bose sub it.

It turns out the factory wired the built-in sub amp wrong and it's out of phase/ Acura even put out a tsb on this to changes two wires in the Bose amp and it made the sub 10x louder!!!

Someone was asking about the size of the factory amp. Here are some pics and one of the plug that needs the wire change:

Maybe some of you audio gurus can make more sense of this. Check these links. I think you may have to register, but it's WORTH IT!

I'm not sure if this fix will hold true to us mounting the subs in our s2000, since I'm not sure if it was all due to the acura wiring, but I think it might.

Moving to the Electronics Forum

But this is great info! As I also have one of these sub boxes... but after playing with it for a day... I just gave up, because it sounded like crap

I think I'll try these suggestions here and see if it sounds any better

Thanks STL, JL and Jason B for sharing.
