Ok guys I replaced the fuse with the one that I piced up from the store. Like an extra one. The original one which blew was a 60, this one was a 40 and that blew today too, again at high volume subwoofer listening. I am not suprised that this one blew since if the 60 blows from listenign hard what can the 40 do? But someting is still bugging me something that dave said, that it shouldent blow becuase of listening hard.
I dont know what do you guys think?

Check a few things....

Which fuse is blowing, the INLINE fuse from the battery to the amps right?

What are the gains of the sub amp at?

Fuses should not blow from hard listening, they arent "usually" relevant.

Something may be causing the fuse to blow...

Do you crank it up incrementally, or do you jump straight to high volume?
Get a volt meter and test.......

Voltage at your amps terminals
The battery (before the INLINE) and between the amps and fuse.....AFTER the INLINE....

Get back to us.

Yeah the fuse is the inline from battery to the amp, but not the one right in front of the battery, the one that you can see in the picture.

I crank it up, and slowly increase it depends. But I can say it blows mostly after its cranked. It doesnt die during cranking. It plasy a little at the volume level that I wanted it to, then blows.

I gotto go home see, I cant voltage it I dont have the required tool for that, all I can do is get it checked when I get the trunk done.

 

yeah, now i'm worried as well about the 500/1 fuse thing.


Andy -- now for sure, can you take pics of the settings on the amps? and can you take a picture of the blown fuse? (or just type in for us the writings on the fuse?)

and i'm also wondering if you've got a strange voltage drop that's causing a high current draw situation... you might want to bring it back to the shop and tell them what is happening... you definitely shouldn't have blown a 60A fuse.

we need to make sure that the fuse is rated for 12 V. it should be, but i've seen stranger.


did the slow power up issue get fixed with the signal sensing switch?

 

Oh yeah that issue is done dude thanks. But fuse blowing is still the same I went thru 3 fuses in 3 days now I dont have any replacament fuses left so I am listening to the sound without the bass. I ll take a pic of the settings and wiring to see if you guys can figure something out. I will probably also go to the shop and get it checked out.

 

yup.

i'm concerned about the fuses... my Kicker amp is way less efficient than yours and outputs almost the same power... which means mine should draw far more current. i think i have a 50 A fuse on it, and haven't had problems yet... so this just ain't jiving.


we need to keep in mind that the JL amp has a regulated power supply... so, the behavior might be different from most other amps that we normally work w/. if Andy's system was experiencing a major voltage drop, the 500/1 would pull more current to maintain the 500 Wrms output.
