Nasty Stereo Rattle
Hey everyone I have an 02 s2k with full alpine stereo. I have one ten in the trunk and everytime I turn it up it makes something under the convertible top ratte really bad. I think it is the plastic grey piece right under the top. When I lower the top the rattle is gone. Does anyone else have this problem? A solution?
Thanks

Well, everyone with a sub, does. Spend a little time looking around the electronics forum. You can remove the piece as some have done but that allows you to see into the fuel tank area when you look through the window. You can put something between the rattling pieces as some have done (match sticks). You can dampen the rattling pieces with dynamat, etc.
If by "mat" you mean the DynaMat, it's something you shouldn't see once it's installed.
I'm in the middle of my install now. I've got the trunk dynamat'd (actually using eDead, I think). I didn't take any pics while I was doing that though.
If I end up doing the under side of the panel (working on the install again tomorrow) I'll snap some pics and then let you know if it works.
Oh, and to those still interested, I have a write up I'll be posting in a few days (with pics) on how to install an AVX1.

I have a full Alpine system, and I Dynamated the whole trunk. Depending on how you set up the system and what gear you have, that will depend on what you'll need to do.
Don't forget the vent in the bumper... that thing will drive you crazy.

Put some pressure on the tray when its rattleing to determine if that is the only source of the rattling. If it is, pull it apart and put some window weather stripping between the panels. Window weather stripping can be found at Home Depot and Lowes. It looks like a 1/4 circle. One end will have a removable adhesive strip. Remove the adhesive backing and attach it in between 1 of the panels, make sure it folds when the other panel is installed (so the 2 flat sides are on the panels). This will help reduce the rattle, as the connection between the panels will be rubber instead of plastic on plastic.
Try a search, there have been a few threads regarding this.
