I have searched the forums but I'm unable to find the right information on how to cut into the dash to allow for a double din video monitor. I'd like to know where to get the adapter to fit in the opening and also how much room is behind the dash area, meaning is there enough to allow for a double din eclipse AVN navigation unit.

If there is a thread on a DIY on how to cut into that area that I skipped let me know, but all I've seen are finished products mainly and the ones that have a few pics that show the opening, you can't really see how much room is behind it.

Basically I just want to know where to cut, where to get the adapter, and if the navigation system would fit in that area or if it has to be a monitor only in that location attached to a brain in another place.

ive seen a dash cut out before... and i dont think there is enough room behind the dash for a double din navi because of all the ducts they have there for the ac and heating... theres one that runs on the right side center of the dash for the passenger and it comes within 3 inches of the dash...

 

I don't believe you can fit a double din either. Just a shallow LCD.

 

Yes you can. You just need to know how to do it It has been done plenty of times. You can even fit them in the stock radio location with a little custom work.

 

^ I agree with darkknight, many people have done double-din in-dash installs. There's a sticky at the top, look through that. Also, I believe s4play had a thread detailing his install?

 

yea you can do the double din radio in the factory radio locatoin if you move the abs module... and cut out the vents ... but..... you would have to do some duct work.. in order for it to fit properly.... and hence i say properly

 

^Cutting vents is the same as cutting the dash, if you never use the vents to begin with (I have not used that setting once since I bought the car 3+ years ago). Here is what I did. The unit is above the ABS module. Took about 20 minutes with a dremel / metal shears to get the metal cross brace and lower duct out. Sealed up the duct with duct tape (sealed to plastic with epoxy on top of the tape adhesive for a pressure-proof seal). I bought the setup from another member on here, and the face plate is just sanded/shaped MDF wrapped in leather.

I've seen the ones down where the stock radio is, but don't you end up hitting your knuckles on the screen when you shift?? I was thinking about doing that with a double din that tilts, but I thought for sure it would get in the way when you shift

 

my screen doesn't get in the way of the my knuckles while i shift at all
