Default Need estimate on level of difficulty and time

Hi,
I bought the car with aftermarket head unit and now none of the stock radio controls to the left of the steering wheel function.
I would like to use one of those switches to trigger my garage remote as opposed to hiding it from theives. Is this a difficult and time consuming task? Anyone done something similar? any references to how-to's?

Thanks

Would be pretty easy, actually.

All you would have to do is take a remote opener that you already have, then embed it under your dash, and splice the wires from one of the buttons in place of the original button on the remote.

I know that might sound non-specific, but things you will need are:

- Soldering iron (to make connections on the circuit board of the garage remote)
- Solder
- A length of wire (to splice the dash button into the remote)
- Possibly a wiring diagram of the dash if it's not completely visible without removal
- Electrical Tape

Do what ruexp67 suggests, and also get Modify's DCI. Then you have best of both worlds: Radio buttons work again, and the garage door opener is hidden. I've done both and really like the setup.

My garage door opener lives in a plastic bag by my headlight. High beam activation...

Pardon my ignorance, but how does that work as you turn the high beams on/off as you drive down the road at night?

As long as he is out of range of his own garage door, nothing happens. Sure it's sending out a signal, but so what?

Yep. It's the "intellicode" opener so it's supposed to not be able to open anybody's door but mine. No problems so far, i've had it wired in for a couple years now.

I stuck some velcro on the opener, and put the entire opener on the "inside" of the dash on the left side just inside the bottom edge of the dash panel. I just reach under there and push the button.
