Need a hand calculating Ohms
A friend of mine needed some help troubleshooting a sub/amp combo she bought off of someone she knows. The subs pop every time the radio turns on/off, which I think I've narrowed to insufficient grounding. They also sound incredibly weak, and nothing like their appearance would have them sound. Both the subs and amp are mediocre, but should be thumping more than they are currently. I want to rewire them to decrease their resistance, but I want to make sure I'm not pushing too much power into them.
Amp: Hifonics tx1505d
rms power @ 4 ohms: 500 watts x 1
rms power @ 2 ohms: 1000 watts x 1
rms power @ 1 ohm: 1500 watts x 1
Subs: 2 Diamond audio D112D4.2
Dual 4 ohm voice coils
rms power range 20-200 watts
400 watts peak
my question is if i wire them in the diagram, I know that each of the subs will have an ohm rating of 2 at the sub. The mono amp has 4 connections, but I assume that they lead to the same place on the inside of the amp, essentially acting as 2 connections. (one positive and one negative)
If i wire them as in the diagram, will the amp be seeing a 1 or 2 ohm load?
Also, how much power will each sub be seeing?
Thanks in advance.

So each sub would be looking at 750 watts rms if i went by the published power of the amp?
I don't think there a way to rig it up so they end up with 2 ohms instead of 1?
Fair enough, best way to do it seems to be to turn the amp gain way down, turn the stereo up to the max she'd be listening at, and adjust amp gain to right under the point where the subs start distorting? Every stereo I've ever put together, I've played it safe and properly matched all my components, this is new territory for me with the grossly overpowered amp vs subs.
Its always better to have to much power than not enough... Wire the subs in Parallel. This will give you a 1 ohm load. Then you pretty much have to tune it the way W0Pdego said. Find whatever type of music she likes with the most bass... (now with the gain on the sub amp turned all the way DOWN) turn on the music and turn it all the way up until the rest of the speakers start to distort. Then slowly turn the sub gain up until it starts to distort...
This should only take about 5-10 minutes...
