Default NEED HELP WITH INSTALLATION

Hey everyone,

I'm installing an ALPINE 9857 and Modrify DCI as we speak. Except the problem is, i can't get the bloody brackets off the factory head unit. I tried with a regular philips screw and a drill bit, but it ain't moving. Plus it's starting to shred the screw. Is there a trick to this? Am i suppose to hop on one leg while rubbing my belly before i start? Would it be ok to drive withou a radio? Cause i gotta work soon. Thanks in advance.

William

Honda really tightened the hell out of those screws... no trick really... just apply plenty of downward pressure while "lefty loosey-ing."

Good luck.

If you do strip the screw, dremel it a new head.

No it wont be alright to drive without the radio. You may suffer a Music deficiency Also known as Arthrogrypodic-maxilinodemia. Bad stuff to say the least.

Helps if you use the right size philips... you probably are, but just thought I'd mention it. Do it by hand, unless you've got the radio in a vice and can apply downward pressure on the screw... otherwise, the drill will strip the screw... especially with the typical #2 bit...

Yeah, I've seen a lot of screws on those brackets that are too tight. I stripped on by accident. I ended up getting it off with a pair of pliers. Just squeezed the screw on both sides. It's pretty beefy so it's easy to grab. I imagine a set of channel locks would work well. With the pliers, they came off real easy.

I think one of the problems here is that they are not phillips head screws. The japanese "plus heads" as they call them have a different taper. Our phillips head screw drivers have a hard time gripping them. I work for a Japanese machine tool company and we all buy JIS style screwdrivers.
