Default Need help installing Alpine HU ...

hi, i may need more help than i thought about installing a Alpine HU.

i got the Alpine 7878 (thanks HondaGuy ) rated at 45wx4. do i need to connect the power of the HU directly to the battery (via a fuse or rely)?

is there anywhere i can get a pre-wired harness that can do simple plug and play (without needing to connect any wires by myself) for Alpine and S2000? the model # of the harness?

the antenna of the S2000 need power right? is the power antenna lead from the alpine harness the right one to connect?

any other tips?

Alpines can be picky as to how you supply power to them. I have mine connected to the stock radio power supply, and sometimes, when I am turning the key one click back (from engine on) to accessory on, the radio will turn off for a second. Again, it only happens about 25% of the time. I'm almost certain this is because I'm not tapping from a more direct power source. I'll fix it later, but I have other projects to take care of first.

The power antenna lead from the alpine harness is correct, and should be spliced to the power antenna lead on your adapter harness. On your alpine harness, it's the blue wire with the round push-connector already installed. I believe the corresponding wire on the harness adapter is also blue , but I would have to check on that. I'm running power for my 7995 from the factory harness, but it has no on-board amp. In my last car, I ran my 7875 with power from the harness with no problems. It's up to you, though. It's probably better to take it straight from the battery.

I have my Alpine connected to the stock harness as well, I dont have any problems. I was freaked at first when it said it should be hooked up to the battery. I talked to several installers and they all said just use the stock power. Plus I dont use my internal amplifier on my unit so I doubt it uses as much power.

i read the user manual and they didn't state that i need to run the power directly from the battery. (while the 60wx4 model, i forgot the model #, it's stated in the manual that it NEED to run the power from the battery)

if i opt to run power directly from the battery, how and what should i do?

Bottom line, if it SAYS connect it to the battery do so. Don't cut corners.

You need to snake a 10 gauge power lead through the firewall, and up to the headunit. I would think if you are using the internal amp its probably a good idea to do it this way. However, I've been told by installers who do a lot of Alpine that they don't wire the product up this way.
