[B]lucid,

Would you mind posting (or even by private email if you feel it gives away company secrets) the location of the circle you cut out for the rear panels?

Most on the board know me, if by nothing other than my handle and projects, as the incessant tinkerer. I posted long instructions and pics of speaker and radio installs before s2ki.com even existed or before many were even members in the following months (from the looks of it, so far i'm the oldest member in this post). I remember xviper best by his radmat install (the new avatar kills me by the way, but the baby was sooooo damn funny), UL best by his near-perfect ability to tune an engine from afar, and Lucid best from his rear-speaker invention.

Like a few other on here, Lucid has managed to make a good product with the rear panels, make a bit of cash on it, but not gouge his customers. If he was nasty about the way he ran his business, I would have no issues whatsoever with figuring out the dimensions and posting them for all to see and use (I have my spiteful moments ;) ). However, that not being the case, I figured it would just make my job easier if I had a helpful hand with the measurements beforehand...there will always be plenty of people who prefer to let him do the work. If he chooses not to provide the figures, so be it, no hard feelings, I'll figure them out through trial and error just as he once did...but it couldn't hurt to ask.

<shameless plug> Lucid, ran into a new owner this morning on my way to work, never heard of s2ki.com. He asked about how a few mods might be done, one of which was rear speakers. Can you guess who I told him to talk to? :D

MacGyver, I'm not quite sure if I understand what your last post was all about. I hope you didn't think I was implying anything negative about you or Lucid. I respect your enquiry about the measurement and thus I gave the link. I would also respect Lucid if he were to keep certain things to himself. No slams in either case. I have been a customer of Lucid's and have the highest praise for his products and service. I also have the highest regard for anything and everything you have to say on this forum. (Just a little confused, is all. )
ps. The baby face may return another day.;)

MacGyver, you might need to specify what size speaker, I'm not sure it is the same. I did mine myself with the 4" Kenwood speakers and I can tell you where not to put the hole. I purchased the rear speaker harness and front speaker adapter from lucid but I got a real good deal on the Kenwood speakers on ebay (less then $30 dollars for all 4) and decided to try it myself. I had a 4" diameter knockout to make a perfect hole. I looked at the area behind the panel, looked at the panel, and noticed that there is a "square" area made up by ribs on the panel near where the speaker would go. It looked like the perfect spot to me. I'll just put my hole dead center in that square. Wrong. I think the real placement should be about 1/2 inch to 1 inch lower. I was able to knockout another overlapping whole a little lower and still have the grill cover up my mistake. Lesson learned but I always figured that if I screwed up I could buy the correct panels from lucid.

WOW....hey guys, I never thought I'd spin any problems by posting this thread. Being an attorney and not a car audio specialist, I was very pleased to see that I was able to make this modification without any serious problems.

Lucid, trust me, I'm not trying to "steal" any of your potential business. (if that's in fact what you're worried about)

If anyone is still interested after all the dust has settled, let me know.

MacGyver 07-23-2002 12:20 PM

Heh, sorry guys, consider my post pre-emptive. Some of the older members here are sure to remember some pretty nasty threads in times of old due to (IMO) price-gouging by non-board-supporting members. When things got nasty, I figured out what I needed to know and posted it here, effectively killing off the gouging. Lucid is a supporting member, so although I would love to have the info, I didn't want him to feel like I was demanding something that has potential to take away some of his business. Lucid's a good guy, and no xv, I never thought you had implied anything inappropriate or otherwise....I guess I'm just trigger happy with the pre-emptive "apology" emails BEFORE things are read the wrong way.

Cheers!
