New headunit thoughts
I know there are some people out there like me who don't want to go all-out on a stereo, so I thought I'd give a short review on my new headunit. My needs in a new one were at minimum, an aux input (preferably on the front) and also wanted a usb if possible.
First of all, I'm not a big fan of aftermarket headunits--don't really like the look of them vs. OEM and they usually have more functionality than I need making it difficult to find the simple controls that I want to use hidden within some kind of menu.
The Pioneer DEH2200ub pretty much fits the bill for all my needs. Front aux and usb. Not over the top with hidden features that I have to navigate through too many menus. It lights up green or red--red looks pretty good with the car's lighting. My iPhone hooks up wiith the cord I had at home, and I could control it through the headunit and listen to pandora as well. And above all, was dirt cheap! I first saw it at Best Buy for $129 + another $10-20 for the adapter harness. I got mine from Sonicelectronix.com for $109 (including the harness and shipping).
Power seems to be more than adequate, and I'm pleasantly surprised that my stock speakers seem more than capable now at higher speeds. It was raining really hard yesterday, so I didn't get to see what it was like with the top down. Overall, I am very pleased. I was really worried about losing the dash controls...still don't know what I think. But since the inputs are in the front, I'll always have the radio door open with my iPhone plugged in, so I shouldn't miss the controls too much.
For those of you looking for a simple/inexpensive upgrade over stock, I highly recommend this one!

I've never understood this sentiment -- particularly with the S. The OEM head unit isn't anything to write home about IMO.

I am actually looking at the same unit for the reasons you listed here (simple/usb input/matches interior, etc.) but I LOVE my dash controls. Can anyone confirm if this works w/the Modifry DCI?
