Just a little iPod new for you guys. The new Apple iPod was released today. It is called the "iPod Photo". It comes in 40 and 60 Gb versions and has a full color screen and can be used to store and view pictures as well as music. It comes with an AV cable that you can plug into a TV and view your photo collection with friends and Family. It sinks both music and pictures via iTunes version 4.7. It also boasts an updated 15 hour battery life. It will also allow you to view Album art that is downloaded from the iTunes music store with the music you buy. You can also watch your pictures with your favorite music playing in the background. They are $499 & $599 respectively. Check it out.

Yep, I've been pondering it all day. I have been holding out for the 60gb, and I thought that the color screen was a nice touch, but I was expecting a price point of $500 (Like the 40gb is $100 more than the 20gb). Now I have to figure out whether I want to spend $400 on a 40gb that I will completely full from the day I get it, or $600 to have 20gb of space to grow into and a color screen that will remain virtually unused because it is tucked in my car most of the time. Oh, and bragging rights for the hottest new IPOD of course.

Hmmm.

yeah that should be good for maybe 2 months before apple launches something else. Better buy yours today so you can maximize the number of bragging days left....

Well, I couldn't resist, I ordered a 60Gb iPod Photo a few minutes ago. I am selling both my 15Gb 3G iPod and my brand new 20Gb 4G iPod, so this should net me $400 or so. So an extra $200 for 60Gb, longer battery life and a color screen is not to bad. I don't think they are shipping for 1-2 weeks though, so I will let you guys know how it is when I get it.

Got my 60gb Photo Ipod TODAY!

Found a guy selling 'em on ebay - I saved about $40 on tax, even after shipping. Got it 2 days later, sealed in the factory shrinkwrap.

YAHOO!

I don't think they did enough on the new iPod. It has a color screen and all you can do is view pictures. WOW. They should have made it be able to play video off the hd. I mean $500-600 it should do more.

Video would be nice, but don't write that capability off just yet... But I don't know if I'd be able to find space to store video, or be willing to take the time to do so.

It does do a gew more things though.

For one, it stores 60gb. 50% MORE storage than the previous maximum, that is. Since I have more than 40gb of MP3s, that was essential.

For another, it has longer battery life - I think it is 15hours vs 12 hours - 25% MORE.

It is nice to see the Album Cover when a song is playing <shrug>. The screen is DEFINITLY more readable. Before I bought it, I would have skipped the color to save $100 if I had a choice. Now that I have it, I think the color is worth it (and if you see belowk, I think it was only $50 more).

Depending on which model you are comparing it to, there are lots of other features too.

I was on the fence about paying $400 for the 40gb 4g. Then I figured I would hold out for the 60gb, figuring that it would be $100 more, like the 40gb vs the 20g. ($400 vs $300). I was kinda in shockwhen the 60gb came out as $200 more. Then I realized that considering the 60gb is new cutting edge and only available from one manufacturer, one can't expect the price to be linear. I recalculated that the new hard drive costs more, maybe $150 of the purchase price, so that means the color screen and bigger battery cost maybe $50.

It is also thicker than my wife's 3g, maybe a bit heavier - oh well - I am still thrilled to hold my entire musical lexicon in the palm of my hand.

60GB and you don't know if you'd be able to find the space. How much music do you have. A DVD movie is stored on 4-9 GB dvd's. Thats with full resolution 720 x whatever and no divx or anything. Divx movies are only about 600MB to 1000MB maybe a bit more. If you have the time to move 60GB of music you have the time to move a movie over.

I think it is safe to assume he is not moving 60GB of music to his IPOD on each sync.
