My design would be to support the amp from behind. The bar really wouldn't support the amp at all. It would just be there for "bling."

Okkk.....greeeeat info guys....

First.....I see what you guys are saying about the plexi...you are saying that 1" diameter simply isnt enough.....hmmmm...I although thought that plexi is somewhat flexible, so If im driving, the car does flex a bit, and might snap it...so I would need to install some sort of rubberpiece between the goosenecks and the plexi/steel, to avoid this (industrial silicone might be better)

Well I kind of had the same idea as you Phil, so this might be the way to go.

By engineering, im just doing mind thoughts right now, I will start the calculations when I am 100% set on a particular design.

Now, I want to figure out what is the distance in total travel of those stupid goosenecks.....cause they sink down, and in....

John....

I too tried to think about 2 bars.....but did you mean that for strength, or for amp mouting/gooseneck purposes? Im not sure I can sync the second bar with the goosenecks, if it isnt mounted on the goosenecks. Although, I do have those bearings, and can do something with rails...like when the trunk closes, the amp slides inward, and when open, it will slide outward.

I was actually thinking about rails on the goosenecks, and then the plexi bar on the end of the rails, just so the amp is all the way towards the outside of the trunk, but Im not sure if they have rails that can hold about 30lbs being mounted only on one end.

Thanks for the feedback boys, I will keep drawing up this stuff, any more ideas/suggestions are more than welcome....

no, i'm actually not worried about this at all. i'm much more concerned about the downward deflection of the plexi cylinder under weight. think of it as a really really thick plastic 'guitar' string. it's going to bow downward, and as you drive it will bounce up and down... that cycling up and down will cause it to crack at any holes drilled in or near the center of the length of the shaft.

still, a steel backing/support should prevent this from happening. you'll still get a little deflection, but steel is no where near as brittle as plexi, so cracking won't be an issue. (i chose stainless b/c it will polish up nice and never rust.)

also -- why not mount the whole thing to the rear wall and just make it look like it's on the hinges? it would greatly reduce the complexity and no one's going to see what it looks like when the trunk is closed anyway...

Hmmmmm....that sounds good, although where would I mount it to have it floating over the sub...??? I need the tube to be behind the sub....I gotta go look at the trunk and see where this is possible....

Sweet!

I want to know how the Alphasonik amps work for you since I've passed them up in my car.

I just found out...that Foose designs (Chip Foose is a very prominent guy when it comes to cars)....uses only Alphasonik gear in his hotrods. (Those cars cost over $400,000.)

So if its good enough for Chip, its good enough for Dave.

Wow phil...its almost as if we are on the same wavelength...

I was thinking about brackets that would be hidden and come to meet the plexy right around the goosenecks. But the plexi would be an inch off the goosenecks, (supported by hidden brackets)

And since the plexi is glowing, it will appear as though it isnt attached to anything.

Thanks buddy!! Im taking a run to home depot right now and check out some bracketry.

P.S. Did you understand a word that I just said?
