Non-S2000 installation help
My beater is a 2000 Oldsmobile Silhouette Premier Minivan. It has a center console vcr with a flip down screen for the back. i want to take out the lower console where the vcr is and make a new one to house my xbox, but I cant quite figure out how to take it out. I know there are clips on each side which i have popped out, and there are two screws straight back and two bolts going down into the vcr sleeve i assume for security. If anyone knows how to take this out, i would greatly appreciate it.
Also, i assume the vcr is a 9v dc powered unit. is there a power inverter that would take the direct connection and give me an ac outlet (or two if possible) so that i dont need to use a cigarette adapter plug or splice the line?
And lastly, my calculations for power draw lead me to believe that i need to get a 300-400 watt power inverter to handle the xbox, but i have seen websites saying that i only need 175-200. can anyone say definitely what i need to power the xbox.
thanks alot guys.
Dave

i have no clue how you'd pull apart a Silhouette's dash...
you assume it's a 9 V DC powered unit? why?
am i missing something here? why not assume it's a 12 V DC powered unit?
and here are a slew of various 12V DC power inverters:

you'll probably have to do some sort of splicing somewhere if you don't want to use the cigarette adapter.
what calculations did you perform to figure the X-Box's needs? and considering a 600 W converter is $10 more than a 150 W converter -- i'd say 'suck it up' and buy the bigger one...
or if you wanted to stick w/ Tripplite, you could spend the extra $20 to go from 150 to 375.
i could make some guesses on the X-Box's power requirements, but i want to know where you're getting your numbers from first.

Thanks for the response, something is wrong with this board, i couldnt even find this thread anymore, i had to search for all post that i made by searching off of my profile from a different thread that i posted in.
but anyway, you are right, i messed up on the 9v thing, it is 12v. the reason i ask, is that i already have a 175w inverter, so it is alot easier to use the one i already have just laying around. as far as my calculations, i looked on the xbox to see the the draw then used a formula off fo the web to convert, i think, volts to watts (W=V*A). this number ended up being over 300. I cant find it now and i am at work so i cannot look at the xbox, but that is how i got what i got.
thanks,
Dave

yeah, the search screws up sometimes... to find your own threads that you want to keep, throw in some weird word or combo of 2 words that only you'll use... it makes finding things easier.
affirmative on the X-box.
yeah, it could be that high. it's probably the power supplies' max rated load, and it uses less. but if it does ever peak and you're under supplying it, you could have problems.
