I just bought a 2000 s2k with an oem 6 disk changer. It skips on even the tiniest bumps. I saw that the bolts holding down the little cage that holds the changer were lose so I tightened them up. This definately helped matters but it's still way too sensitive you use. The OEM head unit NEVER skips so I know honda can do better.

What should I do? Should I try and over the counter type of cleaning disk? Should I take it to the dealer since I've got an extender manufactures warrantee?

is it only skipping while driving? or does it skip while standing still?

also, most changers have a specific orientation that must be right... make sure that it's mounted correctly... (don't ask me how to do that for the OEM changer, b/c i don't know.... sorry.) these install instructions show how to do it though...

 

Thanks for the instructions. I guess the only thing could be that the horizontal/vertical orientation could be off. I'll check that.

Oh, it only skips on bumps and stuff.

Well, it is oriented correctly but the bolts that hold the "cage" down were loose. I tightened them down and the situation got a little bit better. Next I purchased a 3M cd cleaner disk and now it works even better. It's almost bearable. It still skips on abrupt bumps like joints in concrete over passes but it works well on large rolling bumps. Basically, it doesn't like to be jarred. Hmmmm

 

that seems a bit more sensitive than most CD-changers i've heard... but then again, most changers i've heard (not a whole lot) were in soft suspension cars.


here's a thought that is worth trying. it should be fairly inexpensive and only take a little of your time. have you considered pulling the floor mounting (cage?) bolts out and buying rubber washers that fit around them? then mount the changer on top of the rubber washers? if you bought some reasonably soft washers, they would probably act as dampers in the system and might buy you a few less skips. i suspect you could get a bunch of washer for just a couple bucks.

 

I have actually thought of something similar... (I'm an architect with a pension for engineering)

If I try it, I'll let you know how it turns out.
