Default ok so i'm thinking

John - Jim - experts what do you think

head unit = 9835

frt diamond hex's
rear s-pods diamond m3s
sub 12 inch JLw3

currently feeding everything with an alpine MRV-F450 five channel amp

and it's pretty loud BUT i was thinking that i have an older soundstream ref 414s amp that's now sitting in the basement...

so - what would i gain if i was to use the soundstream to feed the sub and use the alpine MRV-F450 to push the speakers - would there be any benifit? will it be louder?

and the next question for Jim - Jim on the spare tire rack, is there room for one more shelf??

pretty sure the JL will take 250 to 300 - this one is their dual voice coil

the soundstream amp

pretty sure if i bridge it i can get 200 watts at 2 ohms -

50x4 @ 4ohms stereo 12volts
75x4 @ 2ohms stereo 12volts
100x4 @ 1ohm stereo 12 volts

I'm guessing that it's a D2 since he currently is running it @ 4ohm's with his Alpine MRV-F450.

Given that then he would have a 4ohm load on his Soundstream and would only be driving 150 watts which would be less than his current setup. Looking at the optimum power for this sub it looks to be 250 Watts. While I'm a fan of having a dedicated sub amp (just personal preference) in this case I don't see any gain from going through all the work of getting two amps in the spare tire area. Unless you just need something to keep you busy for the day.

Jim on the spare tire rack, is there room for one more shelf??
I will check and see. Based on the dimension of the two amps it looks like I would need 5 1/8" of clearance. If there is enough room, my only concern would be the amount of heat that the two amps would generate in such a confined space. I would think you would want some kind of cooling fans.

sorry i wasn't clear - it's a d2 so the sub is two ohm stable

Jim no need to check the amp rack - i figure i'll test it out and if it works just mount the sub to the left of the spare tire hump in the back

OK....D2....the voice coils are wired in a series I assume. I wouldn't bother installing the soundstream either.

I think the Alpine is more powerful for sub use than the soundstream....(I dont have the specs on me.) Why not use the Alpine for the sub, and the soundstream for the speakers...?

Or, you can sell the Alpine, and get a big 4 channel....

But anyway, what are the specs on those two amps exactly?

One thing is for sure tho....the soundstream will run REAL hot if you squeeze all that wattage out of it. Just my .02....

see, no bashing
