Default Okay guys.... am I getting bent over?

Just went to car toys, picked an alarm and bought it.

Alarm itself is 339.99 (Clifford Concept 400)
5 year parts warranty is 50.00
Total Labor is 396.04

Labor includes, locks, lights, trunk pin

They told me that the S2000 is an absolute b!tch to install on because of the way the locks/lights are setup, they need to wire all the locks and lights individually, and it'll be a 6 hour job.

Total = 810

I guess Im wondering if what they said was true about the install... because the labor is a LOT.. anyone have thoughts?

Determining which wires to tap took me 10 minutes and finding the wires took about 5 miniutes... with my Helm Electrical Troubleshooting manual. All professional installers have a vehicle wiring database that helps them locate wires.

Sure they could run their own wires directly to the locks and lights but that seems extremely unnecessary... especially since the factory keyless entry module under the dash practically has all required alarm wires/taps.

Now think + consider: If this shop has a great reputation and does very clean installations... then pay them what they ask. It is sometimes very difficult to find a good installer... especially a place that doesn't leave your car trashed, unreliable, or a mess...

Dude, you might as well grab your ankles. Who the hell was the salesperson? Give me a call and we can run down there together. I'll show you my receipts, I paid a fraction of that at the same place. Hopefully my install wasn't so difficult that they are jacking up the price for the next guy. You absolutely need proximity sensors as well. If you have a quote run it by my house. I am back from dinner now.

Just for comparison here's my estimate for the Clifford Intelliguard 8000 with the dual proximity sensor from Magnolia HiFi (Lynnwood). For $795 parts and install, I get the basic alarm, door-hood-trunk pins, both the tilt and the shock sensors, doors and trunk release work off the alarm remote, and smart siren with battery backup.

I've never had good luck with the salespeople at CarToys. They have Cliffords in the store but they always push the other DEI products even when I specifically want a quote for the Clifford system. I would say good luck with CarToys if you've already bought.

I have a clifford IG8000 (with prox and all) - installed for just under 530 out the door. not bad, but the lights dont flash - not sure if they are supposed to. batteries went dead after four days of use. brain is under the seat which I must remove when putting in my Sparco seat because they installed it in the wrong place. red led hole is drilled into the center console aluminum - I wish they would have asked me about this before hand - they really @#(*@'ing scratched this up and now its peeling away. ever since I got the alarm installed I've had issues starting the car - not sure how its related since they claim it has nothing to do with the starter.

other than that, lets see, the alarm functionality itself - well I had a magazine in my front seat so my neighbor and I were talking and the alarm was on, he reached in casually, grabbed it and nothing even chirped. needless to say, I think its a pretty shitty deal. but for 800 bucks? they better give you a dozen roses to give your wife when they are done screwing you.

I have an Alpine 8063 with every add-on available at the time (dual proximity, opens trunk, rolls up windows, etc.) and a shop that specializes in high end custom stereo did the install for about $650 including the alarm and all bells and whistles.

You can probably hear your ankles pretty well from the position you're in..

I have the stock crappy alarm, but it works. A couple guys did the install in 1 hour. A trunk and hood pin and mounting an different horn would be 3 hours more at most, unless it's their first time doing it, in which case they shouldn't be touching your car in the first place. I don't see why it would take a pro 6 hours...

Well they're doing lights, locks, prox, kill etc etc

the lights and locks alone take forever since they arent standard wiring procedures, they have to individually wire each door and light, which takes a while.
