Default Opinions about a sub in the trunk

Id just like to hear your opinions about various set ups with subs in the trunk and how it sounds. I am about to add a sub in now, but am not sure what to do because i have always had a hard time getting a sub to sound good from the trunk.

Although the bottom is more convenient, the best bass response comes from facing the subwoofer sideways.

Because I tested it pretty extensively before permanently doing it.

Prior to building a custom box, my installer and I tested out an 8" sub in a pre-made box. We placed it in the bottom tool well after emptying it, we then played several different tracks. This was done with the engine off, running, top up, down and while driving. We then did the same with the sub facing sideways and facing the rear. The best bass response was actually facing the sub towards the rear. But, because this is difficult to do in the S, we decided to go with it facing sideways. This was the very last thing we did after installing all of the other components. We ended up facing a JL 10 sideways bridged by a Soundstream Rubicon 404.

Go here for pics. My car is about half way down on the second page.

I'm trying to decide what's the best for a sub too. I've seen everything from the tool box sub, to the in the corner subs, to something like a bazooka tube.

I need to keep as much space as possible since it's my daily. Opinions and how do I get it?
