HOWEVER, i gave had great results from the yellowtop group 34/78 size. the gm replacement one. i have that big monstrosity in my car for at least 3 years now and its been a rock. i have left the car for 3 weeks at a time and it still fires right up

So, time will tell. 3 year lifetimes and surviving 3 week downtimes would be expected of nearly all batteries. My OEM Panasonic is nearly 6 years old and survives 2 months without starting. So far, so good.

I´ve used both Red and Yellow and IRCC the yellow one is not a start battery in first hand. Both did a good job but way too heavy IMO.

You realize the Yellowtop G51R weighs less than the stock battery, right?

Yes, I was a bit shocked as well to find that out. At 22(ish) lbs, really not too shabby. The only lighter batteries are race batteries that aren't really designed for much more than cranking an engine (with a jump start, often) and holding just enough of a charge to get around the track. Most definitely not designed for use with an aftermarket audio system.

I've had my Yellowtop for 1 1/2 years now (or so), I've had no problems with it. YMMV

So far as I can recall, it's only been drained once - and that was due to the overhead light being left on (for a week).

I used a Redtop in a car that I winter drove and parked outside.

It could be -40 degrees (Celcius) out and the battery would still be cranking it hard..

My first yellow top lasted 15 months, my second one lasted 12 months and 3 days.

The reason I know this is because the warranty is full replacement for the first year. Since I was 3 days over a year, I was refunded a pro-rated amount of 50%. Needless to say, that was the last Optima I bought.

Oh no. I wish I saw this thread before I ordered a yellow top. I was looking for a new battery and I got the impression after searching the forum that this was a good bet for an improvement over the stock battery. Hopefully it will last over a year...
