Pioneer and DCI, Radio Presets Dont Toggle?
So this weekend I installed a Pioneer DEH-7600MP head unit and DCI wired.
Install was mostly easy. Thanks to the many resources here.
However, I'm just a bit annoyed that the DCI unit doesnt toggle through the radio presets, and just adjusts the tuner one step, like 106.7 to 106.9. It would be much more functional if the presets change instead. Pressing CH or MODE just changes the FM1, FM2, AM or between CD and Radio. I listen to the radio enough that this is an issue for me.
It works great for changing the CD track up and down.
I just want to make sure if other Pioneer head unit and DCI users experience this. And to let others know if they were considering a Pioneer head unit and DCI.
Guess I should have just gotten an Alpine...

I have the Pioneer DEH3800MP and the DCI and I just figured out how to do this (by reading the instructions that came with the DCI). Press and hold the CH button and then use the volume control button to cycle up or down through the radio presets.
If you activated the Tap-n-Press function by setting dip switch 4 to the on position, you can tap (press for less than 1/2 second) the CH button to move to the next preset. I must not have turned switch 4 on during my installation because the tap function doesn't work on my system.
These functions are not very intuitive- that's why I had to go back and read the instructions. I recommend you do that as well. Good luck!

actually, I am specifically talking about CH+Volume toggle, up and down.
and the tap function just moves the channel up one frequency as well.
hmm.. maybe its my luck that my head unit responds differently.

Modifry, I meant no disrespect of your product. I'm very happy with it. Just pointing out to tysonCRX that reading the instructions might help because it wasn't clear from the first post that he had. Based on his second post, it's clear that he did read and follow the instructions but is still having problems.
modifry, thanks for answering my post.
yes, there are presets already set.
unfortunately, i dont have a CD-rom made yet. so i cant test that out.
when in radio mode, both tapping CH and Mode moves the frequency up. holding CH+Vol or Mode+Vol both will adjust frequency up and down. pressing CH will cycle FM1, FM2, FM3, AM. pressing Mode will change source between CD.
in cd mode, tapping CH and Mode will change tracks up. same with +Vol up/down for both again. pressing Mode will go back to radio. however (to finally answer your question) pressing CH will do nothing.
i havent tried to disable tap-n-press mode yet to see if it behaves as expected since the DCI is behind the passenger cover. ill do it tomorrow when i have time and light.

Tyson/Bob,
I just installed a DEH-P980BT with a wired DCI controller yesterday and noticed the same thing regarding the CH button. I only had about 30 minutes to mess with it so far so I'm not ready to say what it will or won't do, but would be more then willing to do some testing this evening if it will help. The only problem I'd have at this time is changing dip switch settings, as I've already reassembled the dash.
I'd agree with you Bob, it does sounds like it's happening with the Pioneer wired head units, but if you're willing to work with us and try and find a solution, I'll jump on the wagon.
Thanks,
Mike

If you invoke Tap-n-press then tapping CH should change radio presets or go to the next MP3 folder (or next disk if a changer is installed).
SlipperyPete - When you say the CH works like Tyson's, do you mean the CH + Vol command never changes presets or the CH button by itself?
Something strange is going on. I don't think Pioneer changed their wired remote interface but it's hard to tell since they don't have diddly on their web site about it, though they are big into marketing BS and outright lies*. I think it's more likely that the DCI isn't working right, but two of them sounds fishy, especially since I have a Pioneer 3800 in my rack that I use to test the Wired DCI's with, and I verify every function works before it goes out the door.
*Direct quote from their web site:
"Hi-Volt (5V) Pre-Outs
If you decide to connect an amplifier to the DEH-P980BT, its three Hi-Volt (5V) pre-outs will deliver a clean, powerful signal path. The higher the volts that a pre-out provides, the better the signal strength to your amp, and then your amp doesn't have to work as hard."
Somebody with lots of money and nothing better to do with it should sue companies like this. From an engineering perspective, higher pre-amp outputs means the amp has to work harder. You're pumping a larger signal into the amp than it was designed to handle, so to compensate for that you have to turn the amp gain down. That means the extra voltage from the HU is being dissipated in the amp, as heat. Heat = working harder.
well, like mike (slipperypete), im happy to send the unit back to you for you to test it out so we can perhaps get some clarity. im assuming my installation is fine if every other function works. my head unit was bought used off ebay, 2004 model, so its 2-3 years old. mike's looks to be a current model.
and it was too dang hot today to do anything in the car.
