Default Pioneer DEH 7800mp

If price wasn't a factor, which HU would you get? I was leaning towards the Alpine 9857 because Alpine makes really great stuff...i currently have a 9835 (which was the top of the lien 2004 model, CD receiverwise) in my other car, and I know Alpines have a great reputation. but last night i was snooping around at best buy trying to kill some extra time and I saw the Pioneer DEH 7800mp. i was really impressed with the display this HU has plus all the other features that come with it. anywho, the pioneer does seem to have a wider face and stick out a little bit more than the alpine, and i'm afraid i might not be able to close the radio door. i can't decide...

which one would you get, if price wasn't a factor?

if anyone has the Pioneer DEH 7800mp, what are your thoughts and experiences with it? thanks...

if price wasnt a factor you should look into Eclipse. Fantastic sounding radios and 5v preouts standard.

what do u want to know?? I got it installed and love it!!

It sounds great, 5V pre-outs are clean, OEL display looks great, audio tuning options are endless....oh and I love the ability to download pics/videos to the headunit, I have a custom rotating s2k background

Cons are like any Pioneer unit, pause function isnt readily accessibly, but not too much else is bad about it.

I got it w/ a BB employee discount for 245....if u can get it for cheap, but it!!!

EDIT: Radio door closes no prob

Only problem is that there's no wired Modifry DCI that will work with the Eclipse, so far as I can tell...

FWIW, for use in the S2000, I think it's about a dead heat between the Alpine 9857 and the Pioneer Premier DEH-P980BT. They both have a very good feature set, and while the Pioneer is about $100 more expensive than the Alpine, it has some added functionality that is worth the price, IMHO.

Now if we were talking about a normal coupe or sedan, I'd get the Pioneer for a number of reasons.
  • Its Bluetooth capabilities would be more useful (a cellphone is of dubious value in an open car at high speed ).
  • The EQ and time alignment features would make a difference.
  • The 24-bit vs. 1-bit DAC would make a difference.

Let's face it, any car is a pretty challenging environment for high quality sound, and while the S2000 can be tweaked (e.g., sound deadening) to be a bit better than stock, it will never really take advantage of what the Pioneer HU can offer.

I've got the one I'd want.

JVC AVX1. The AVX2 is nice but I like having the controls on the same side of the radio.

Lots of features and can be had for a good price if you search around.

do you think the sprint a900 (the blade) will work with the Pioneer 9800bt? cause most people have the motorola razr. the 7800mp or the alpine 9857 are my two choices...i don't think i'll be using the other features of the 9800bt..but thanks for the inputs...
