Pioneer Premier DEH-850MP Head Unit
Anyone know if this head unit will be ok for our car? and whether or not the lucid dci will work for this unit? (I tried to msg him but no answer)
Thanks!
Thanks!
It probably will not work due to the way it the motorized face swings down and out. Ive ran into that problem on a few different cars that Ive tried to put that unit into. I think it will hit the plasic below the radio opening but Im not for sure.
I totally forgot about the radio cover. But after you mentioned about it I did some digging and found this pic.
It's not the exact model but it's one of the fold out model. It's the model with the remote IR.

Just tried to fit a DEH-P8400MP (from my old car) to my new S. From what I could see, it's not going to fit without modification. Got it in for now, but the front fascia can't actually flip out with the trim re-attached. It can drop down far enough to insert CD's (thank god), but that's about it.
Also, and equally annoyingly, it sticks out too far to allow the flap to close over the front of it if the detachable fascia is still attached
So... new head unit for me. Shame, too... I really liked it.

I finally got my DCI and did an actual full install on the 850MP and it works great. No problem closing or opening. The secret is to mount the brackets on the second hole and bend the L arm from 90 degree to about 95-97 (you will have to play around with it) so that the front won't stick out too much. Using the second hole will leave you with just 1 screw on the bracket, don't worry there's no way the HU will move there's not enough room. If you mount on the first hole then the HU will sit too far back, the face won't have enough room to come down. If you don't bend the bracket the HU will sit too far out you won't be able to close your radio door.
If you have trouble pushing the HU in, make sure to tug the fuse, DCI and INTO harness (assuming you're using one) to the side or underneath the HU - there is enough room below and on the side. I ran the DCI to the right so that I can tap into the speed signal wire.

I didn't have to do anything to the radio door. Mounting the bracket on the second hole let the face fold down, bending the brackets let you close the radio door
I'm close to figuring a way to also mount the silver face trim so that it'll look like a clean install. Just need to find a way for it to stick on to the HU. There is enough room for the second face to fold down even with the trim in place. It's just the trim isn't staying put because I'm not using the HU's mounting cage.

I picked up a used DEH-P8400MP in good shape and just finished installing it in my MY01.
I used only one bolt on each side for the mounting brackets, and used the second hole in from the front of the radio. Soldered a Honda wiring harness adapter onto the stock radio leads, and slid everything back in. I was amazed at how easy installation was!
Only thing I haven't installed is the trim ring, because as mentioned in this thread I too didn't use the cage that came with the radio, so there is nothing for the trim ring to attach to. It is a tight fit... when the radio face lower and opens, it barely squeaks by the bottom of the radio dash trim. And the radio panel door will only close if the radio face is in a closed position. no biggie. I might bend the upper L-arm brackets a bit to see if that will 'tilt' the radio just a tad upwards... hopefully, it will give it just a bit more clearance for the motorized face to better clear the dash trim.
I plan on getting the modifry DCI to bring back to life my dashboard controls... and also want to pick up a CD-RB10 aux adapter to get the 'ol iPod working. A set of JVC CS-HX645 drop in replacements for the front speakers are on order... right now, the stock front speakers are having a tough time handling the power from the new HU.
