Default Polk db6500 with just headunit power

I'm thinking about getting the Polk db6500's because people here seem to like them and they install really easily.

But I plan to run them without an amp..just using a jvc or alpine headunit power.

Is buying these speakers and not using an amp a waste of money?

Thanks!

No, but you won't realize the full potential of the speakers.

It will be much improved over the stock speakers, but If you really want them to sound good get an amp for them.

I myself, have type s speakers running off the stock headunit. I bought the car this way. Previous owner(o-turn) had a aftermarket cd player in it but he just kept the speakers in when I bought the car. Compairing my car to my friends completely stock 01, my car sounds much better. I am going to put my amp in at some point, prob when I do a carpc install.

Change the headunit if you can first. The stock headunit sucks. Better speakers will make you realize how bad the headunit really is.

They will sound great with an aftermarket hu, but not as good as they could be. I have MMC6500s running off an Alpine f345 and aftermarket HU and they sound incredible - great definition I actually have the treble at -2.

Nice thing about staging your system is you can always add to it later. HU and speakers now, an amp and wiring later, then maybe a sub to fill out the system.

NFRs2000NYC - thanks. i installed pretty serious systems in my last two cars and both times, I was wrong about being satisfied with unamped speakers.
