Poll: Why did you replace your stock head-unit?
Changed mine for a combination of power (something with pre-outs), CD changer control (for an MP3 project), and for features. The old-school Sony head I have has built-in DSP fields and adjustable sub/bass/treble crossover/emphasis points.
I actually changed out the stock speakers and added an amp and a subwoofer while keeping the stock head unit (well, I didn't do it, I paid somebody to do it).
the sonic results were less than satifactory, because the only way to drive the amp was using the speaker line out, as the stock head unit has no pre-outs.
I mainly replaced the stock head unit so I could get pre-amp outputs to properly drive the amp. If you are going to upgrade beyond front speakers, I strongly recommend a new head unit.

I'm in the midst of replacing my HU right now, I wanted MP3 abilities and I also heard the Lucid panels in Mindcore's car. So I had to have them too.
Glad I can just do it all at once.
