Hi:
I have no experience with this particular unit But I have been using the Delphi SKFi for 2+ years in two cars, at work on the bench (playing now) and at home until this march when I started using the streeming audio on my computer. Considering the price this is a better bargan as you can listen to it while walking around and it has all the assesorys to use in the car and frrd into your sterio. Depending on your location there will be dropouts usually caused by trees or buildings, don't expect it to work in a garage under a building for example.

ive got the MyFi its pretty rad since the fact it comes with car/home kit thats a pretty good value as is also comes with the portable sat reciever which really doesn't get that great of a signal but other than that i love it i can record like 5 hours of music so that means i can record Opie and Anthony which is a bonus for me and well the unit itself does look pretty rad

new question:
is the xm subscription a "per person" or "per machine" type?
can a family use the same subscription with more than one unit, or if you had two units would you need two subscriptions?

by the way, the new skyfi (skyfi2) looks pretty good...

wanabe...

the myfi is a terrific unit and it works great in the car. you should definitely get one if you are considering a satellite radio subscription that works everywhere, not just in your car. unlike the skyfi, it is actually something you can walk around with, with headphones. internal (replaceable) battery does about 5 hours when you walk around with it.

in the LA area there are tons of repeaters so you should have a better than average signal walking around, although it won't work if you are underground or have some other significant obstruction and are out of repeater range (i.e., lead encrusted parking garage). the included car antenna is terrific, as is the included home antenna (which is directional).

for walking around, myfi uses its built in antenna, which will probably work fine for you in L.A. (buddy of mine here in D.C. has a myfi in the car and hasn't even bothered with the car antenna, though i wouldn't recommend that). if it doesn't, they include this little lipstick looking "personal" clip on antenna that is not that great, although there is an aftermarket solution that provides a much more robust "personal" antenna. but again, that's more for folks in rural areas with lots of forest, etc.

only issue in the car will be, as with all satellite radio or ipod or whatever, how you get the audio signal into your headunit. the myfi has a built in wireless FM mod, which works great in some cars and less great in others. if you're not happy with how the FM mod works, we can work on some cheap and better sounding options.

also, if you want, i can get you that unit for $179. see PM

and of course.... XM rocks.
---------------------------

Edit (see you posted again)

XM subscriptions are per radio. HOWEVER, there is a discount for radios 2-5 in the same household. Those would be only $6.99 a month instead of $12.95. Also, XM is running a 2 for 1 offer now, where you buy one radio, you get a second one free added to your account on the family plan.

they've gotten better about not being ripped off like this.

it is highly unlikely that your radio ID will work, esp. if it isn't an OEM car radio.

The subsubrication is per radio plus streaming audio. aOnly one radio, however the family can listen on the internet while you listen in the car ect.
