A lot of newer cars will blow the fuse to the 12v DC if you run more than 275 watts continuously through it. I've done it before. If you're running more, you might want to hard wire some power cords through the firewall into the cabin.

thanks for the info. the trip isn't that long so the guests may have to just stare out the window like we used to do when we were kids.

Thread Title: "Power Inverters, not for the S"

I ran heavy gauge wires in my old Civic to power devices for the reason avoiding of popping fuses on the 12v socket. If you look at the wires that run in to it, they are probably 14 or 16AWG, maybe smaller.
